Rikkitic:

My suggestion is not targeting those people, but the fanatics who think they are entitled to crap on gay icons just because they read something in the bible. You crap on their icon, they crap on yours. Sounds fair to me.

Defacing symbolism doesn't just affect the nutters. In fact, I'd argue it doesn't impact them at all. Makes them worse.

It just sounds like a great way to start a war. We have enough of those already.

The police are taking far more effective action than yours as well they should. There isn't any place for those people in NZ, but neither is there any place for behaviour the likes of what you suggested either.

Apart from that, religious fanaticism has done a lot more harm than good throughout the course of history, but I won't pursue this argument further. Happy Easter.

Your issue seems to be (and should be) with fanatics. If no religion, they would find something else to attach thier hatred to.

Getting these in the mail today, and having a full social calendar and no free nights to watch them until... the 8th of April, I think?

It's gotten really out of hand now.
I saw a rainbow in the sky earlier. Where the heck are our painters and their buckets of white paint now??

Even the sky has gone woke with their equal rights agenda. Disgusting.

Oh no! All the money they put into gambling goes to support Pride!

I hope this annoys the religious nutters a lot.

Try living in the UK or Europe. You’ll not be wanting the most numerous religious nutters found there getting too annoyed. The consequences can get out of hand.

They get more trade on a day when they likely normally wouldn't, but then still want to charge people more for it.

Yup with you there. I participate in a number of foodie forums and asking for a list of places NOT surcharging is likely to get you 20 lectures on why you should consider it a privilege to eat out on a public holiday. My reply if usually pretty short and copy and pasted. I choose who I support, and those who don't charge a surcharge need the support more. Followed by 20 more replies lecturing me on why I'm wrong! Answer is, I stopped dining out on public holidays, hopefully everyone is happier now. Sigh.

Add to that, golf courses shutting their cafe/bar and not having the green keepers out on public holidays.

I mean it's a bonus revenue day and you should have the course tip top (for non golfers it's nice to have the greens mown every day).

Because their costs have gone up for that day. On the slim margins they make then they need to.

Me...I think they should ALL be closed so people can have...what... 3.5 days a year to be with family.

I don't feel the need to do ANY shopping of any sort for the...let me check..3.5 days a year that are officially days that shops etc are actually closed.

I would certainly fight tooth and nail for me and my family not having to work those days, perhaps you would prefer to work them, I don't know.

Not everyone wants to be with family, or has a family to be with, or practises a religion that cares about Easter.

And if the margins are so slim, maybe they should consider another business. There is no 11th commandment stating 'thou shalt do others a favour by overcharging them to slurp bitter coffee and consume stale food at thine inn'.

I am an atheist, so religion does not enter into this for me.

However having the opportunity for friends and family to be able to get together is important. People complain about the crime we have, ever think it's because of the broken families where no one actually has the time anymore to be a family ? Half the time my wife and I take seperate holiday time off because work commitments prevent us being able to take them off together. Our holiday for next week got wrecked because of injury and illness at her work, so she has to work those days now.

I work with people who do things like have club meets for things like medieval reenactment , archery, tramping , military vehicle meets, etc etc etc where the extra long weekend makes all this possible.

I am guessing then that you should volunteer to work on these public holidays for someone else who DOES want to be with family.

And here it is...the funny part... complaints about having to pay more followed up by "if the margins are so slim, maybe they should consider another business", OR it seems fatten the margins to meet the extra costs on those days where the people who want their service don't care about other peoples lives....

In many cases they don’t “need” to charge a surcharge, they do it because they can. It’s the same as phantom “health and safety” charges.

It’s their business, they can do what they want. As a consumer I can tell them what I think or I can avoid those businesses.

I’m entirely ambivalent whether or not a business has the margin to be open. I also don’t really care if a cafe is open on a holiday. If they are open it annoys me that they charge a surcharge.

One thing that bothers me at the moment is finding that the BS with monitors and 6 bit panels pretending to be 8 bit is still ongoing with things that are coming off lease via IT sellers these days.

At least HP have almost the decency to mention it slightly on the specs sheet with a little "with FRC technology" by the colour specs.

I thought this crap was 10 years in the past.

I will assume that you know which is which for their "need" to surcharge.

As a citizen I chose not to use any of them so that their staff can have a day off with the rest of their families.
You want special service on a public holiday, have the good grace to accept it will cost you extra for that privilege. Think of this being "after hours" cost that tradies , doctors, and many other businesses charge.

missing out on your coffee for one day will not kill you.
