Had a couple of flights recently so:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - Absolute rubbish. I can recommend everyone stay MILES away from this. I'm pretty sure they even re-used transformers sound effects every time there was a truck. 1/10
Expendables 3 - Just another expendables movie. Mindless violence. Nothing new. 5/10
Monty Python Live (Mostly) - Enjoyable. 8/10

turned on the teevee the other night and tv3 was showing an absolutely awful, tear your eyes out, unwatchable terminator 2.

gawd knows where they got this version from but it was worse than an old worn out vhs tape.

The Penguins of Madagascar movie was not nearly as bad as I thought. I had a few laughs and I have seen every episode of the series, which is tiresome in places, yet it grows on you.

The movie will be fun for everybody but mostly those under 10 and they will stay awake throughout as it's well put together with little people in mind.

Ok, so good excuse for some quiet family time:

Paddington (2014) Delightful family movie, full of charm and humor.  7/10

Shine was taken off slightly however when it cost just under $80 for 2 adults and 2 kids, 2 drinks and 1 popcorn!!!!  Daylight robbery.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

scuwp: The Equalizer - Stylish and occasionally brutal, but Denzel at his best as an ex government agent who helps out the little guy.  Marton Csokas (Leonard from Shortland Street so my wife tells me) has certainly done well for himself, who knew he could pull off a Russian mobster.  A brilliant couple of hours, highly recomended  10/10.

Finally got to see The Equalizer. Not bad, would give it a 8/10 though.

Horns 6/10 Had its good parts but could've been slightly shorter, crazy bizarre ending though!

Big Hero 6 7.5/10 A fun movie, worth the watch. The America/Japan city was quite cool.

Saw Big Hero 6, which was stunning in terms of visuals, I'm picking they had to develop special software to get such realistic looking deformation of the inflatable robot. It was also well written with a great balance of humour and drama; do recommend.

Also saw the final Hobbit movie; there is a nice clip leading into the movie where some cast and crew members talk about how great an experience it's been making the movies in NZ. As with all previous installments, I got used to the high frame-rate after about 15 mins and the CGI sections of the film seem slightly more refined and realistic. Great performances from Richard Armitage, Lee Pace and Sir Ian as usual, but nothing standout by anyone else which is unfortunate because this film (like it's predecessors in the trillogy) is drawn out for an uncomfortably long time. The fight scenes overstayed their welcome and dropped me out of what immersion I'd managed to achieve.

^Re HFR - I don't get the adjustment timeframe myself....or the whole "it's too real" or "it's like a soap opera" (not that I'm saying that's what you're saying).  For me I was sold on HFR from the first frame of the first scene of the first film and I've been loving it ever since.  I want more!  I want to see a big sci-fi in HFR.  I realise and understand it has it's place and isn't for every film or genre.

Predestination 6/10 Had it figured out within 10 minutes but still held my attention throughout.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 7/10 A little slow but I enjoyed this, took me a while but finally got to watch it and was worth the watch.

See Tape 3/10 Struggled to watch the whole thing.

Big Hero 6.

Awesome.  8/10 (looses a couple of points for a couple of plot holes; but at the end of the day it is a kid's film!)

I've been getting confused with a few recent movies with similar names — Predestination and Redemption being a case in point.  Not that they are similar movies.

Redemption does give me a nice segway into my recent revisit to some old favourites though, as I watched Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels last night.  It was at least as good as I remembered it, but by heck, Vinnie Jones acting is dire.  I mean we all know about it, but seeing it again still surprised me to a cringe making degree.

I also saw the last half hour of The Good The Bad & The Ugly, which is right up there with Once Upon a Time in the West, but the sound failed on my copy ten minutes from the end, and like FFoD, the sound track is such a big factor wit those movies.

I thought Vinne Jones' movie career had fizzled out way back after Swordfish, but just checked, and he has as many entries in his IMDB filmography as anyone I can think of.  I'm pleased for him, although not sure why.

The Retrieval.

Set during the American civil war. An African American youth is used by bounty hunters to lure a former slave into a trap.

This film did not do much for me. The pronunciation of words by one of the main actors was more like mumbling than clear speech. There is nothing wrong with my hearing, but half the time I could not make out what he was saying.

A budget film, poorly edited, with a disappointing end. 3/10 stars.  I should have abandoned it after the first 10 minutes as it never really improved.

Big Hero 6, great movie, first movie my 5 year old ever completely sat through.

Equalizer, pretty good movie, worth a watch

Godzilla, absolute crap

The Interview, I enjoyed this, similar to forgetting sarah marshall, get him to the greek, knocked up etc, so if you didn't like those you wont like this.
