Going to Sydney in the middle of the week. Looking through Air NZ flights, there's only one direct flight on Tuesdays, at 3:40 PM. All other flights are either via Auckland or Christchurch for almost seven hours travel.

I'll leave the debates to that other thread, but just a footnote because I'm unsure if you are making a joke, is that this is factually incorrect. The vast majority of Gazan residents are not Israeli citizens.

Happiness scores are based on the resident populations in each country, rather than their citizenship or place of birth.

I'm not sure of the present official status beyond "it's complicated", but if Gaza is deemed part of Israel, then Gazan residents are Israeli residents per the terms of the study.

About 20% of Israeli citizens are of Arab origin. Then there's Palestinians as well.

Maybe check again?  I see four direct flights in the next three Tuesdays.

There are direct flights at 3 PM. Not interested in those. Booked on QANTAS instead.

I didn't say they were, I was just commenting on the W/T/F of how they got those results. Gaza and the West Bank are in effect Bantustans, but that's for the other thread.

Sovereign citizen jailed for disruptive behavior in court
https://www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/350222874/sovereign-citizen-jailed-disruptive-behaviour-court

""
Megan Gordon has been imprisoned for 21 days for contempt of court.
She had been representing herself at a trial in the Nelson District Court when a judge found her in contempt.
Gordon had been using pseudo-law common in the sovereign citizen movement.
""
According to the police summary of facts, about 8pm on July 5, Gordon failed to stop at an alcohol checkpoint on Halifax St.
...
Gordon drove towards police, “reversed at speed into a bank” and then drove towards police again.

Then she locked her doors and refused requests to get out and be breath tested. Police pepper sprayed and arrested her.
""
She has history.

""
In 2022, Gordon was charged with wilful trespass after she locked herself inside a dog shelter where her unregistered dog was impounded.

She was also subject to civil action by Nelson City Council for non-payment of rates, and been subject to a Tenancy Tribunal ruling after a "vigilante" eviction attempt.

From the bio of Minnesota Science and Technology hall of fame inductee Nancy Sherman:

In high school during the late 1940s, Sherman refused to accept the results of an aptitude test for girls that indicated her best career choice was "housewife." She wanted a career and didn't want to spend her time studying in college only to end up at home. She insisted she be allowed to take the test given to boys, which indicated she should be a dentist or scientist.

A bunch of racist law enforcers (Rankin County sheriff's deputies Hunter Elward, Christian Dedmon, Brett McAlpin, Jeffrey Middleton, Daniel Opdyke and former Richland police officer Joshua Hartfield. Rogelio V.) were sentenced to prison.

The WTF is for their actions. They are racists. The neighbours who called them because "there are two Black people living in the house" are racists.

Call them whatever you like. What must have gone wrong with them to make them hate their fellow human beings (regardless of race) so much?

Regarding Megan Gordon, a sign you've made bad choices with your life when you're a Karen and the newspapers keep a file photo of you.

I'm sure it's part of a governmental conspiracy in her mind, but honestly she not that special.

As one of the victims pointed out, something remarkable has happened here. Mississippi was always the bottom of a very deplorable barrel. The fact that what happened did happen means it is still pretty far down. Yet justice was served. Brutal cops, who had always been a law unto themselves, have been held to account. White thugs have apologised in tears to black men. Anyone who doesn't realise what an enormous step this is, has never been in Mississippi.

The cynical in me says they are crying because they are going to jail. Nothing else.
