Finally, our cat Shadow caught a normal catch. We found her outside with a small mouse before.

Of course, she had to bring it in to show us what a good little huntress she is. By that stage it was dead. I picked it up and chucked it back outside where it belongs.

Has us wrapped around her tiny paws. Takes many liberties now such as sleeping on our bed and on the couch. We are a soft touch!

DarthKermit: How old is she now?

Turned 1 on October 9th.

We don't think she will get any bigger. Is border collie size.

We have a new addition. On Christmas day 2015, we rescued this orphaned baby girl kitten. We estimate that she was only about three weeks old at the time.

She is starting to thrive, despite being separated from her mother too soon.

My partner named her Noelle, a feminised version of Noel (as in Christmas Noel).

That's her on the cat scratching post that we originally got for our other two kitties.

Well, that is a story in itself. They are all the same age, born in March a year ago. Some time after my beloved cat Boots died, some feral cats moved into his territory since he was no longer around to defend it. After one had kittens I became worried about a population explosion and trapped them for neutering. That was a scratch and bite-filled drama I won't go into. Unknown to me one cat, the previous mother, had already had another litter. I found the little ones under the house and managed to catch five out of six over two days. They were too little for de-sexing so I had to keep them until they were big enough. I made a place for them in a big storeroom in the house and hand-reared them. By the time they were big enough, they all thought I was mummy and I had fallen in love with them. They all used to sleep curled up next to me under the covers. After neutering they just became pets and moved in with us. Now they come and go as they please. Sometimes they disappear for days but they always come back for food, warmth and love. Eventually I also caught the sixth sibling and had it neutered as well, but it was already wild so I let it go again. It comes around sometimes for food but lives outside.

When I took them to the vet, I was asked for their names. I had to think of something, so I said Eeny, Meeny, Miney, Moe and Big Eyes. Eeny is the runt of the litter, a little mamma's boy. He is a sweet, unassuming cat who likes to stay close to home. Meeny unfortunately lives up to her name. She is a lovely cat with people, but attacks her siblings for no apparent reason. She especially has it in for Eeny and Big Eyes. She is unusual in that she has learned how to use a ladder like a person to go up on the roof to pursue the birds that nest under the eaves. It is not so unusual to see a cat climb a ladder, but she also comes down like a person, backwards, a step at a time. I have never seen that before.

Miney is an exceptionally affectionate cat. She is also the ugliest of the bunch. She is the only one who, as an adult, still loves to sleep under the covers with me, curled up against my stomach. She has a special place in my heart. Moe is the alpha cat, a big, solid, placid male who has claimed a place on one of the dining room chairs as his own. Nothing disturbs him. He bothers no-one and no-one bothers him. The weird thing is, these cats are all siblings, from the same litter, but Moe is at least twice as big as Eeny, the other male.

Big Eyes has a story all her own. She is my princess cat, the loveliest of the lot, with an unmistakable regal bearing. Unfortunately the others are jealous of her exceptional beauty and they pick on her. As a result, she has become anxious, but she loves people. She just doesn't care much for other cats.

She was the last one of the five that I caught. The day after I grabbed the others, I spotted her and the one who got away playing outside on the lawn. I ran out hoping to get them as well. One ran past me and that was the one who got away, but Big Eyes froze where she was, unable to decide what to do since I was between her and her place of safety. She just saw this big lumbering dinosaur coming to eat her and her eyes grew very wide, hence the name. Her mother nearly killed me when I grabbed her and she started screaming, but eventually I managed to get her safely inside. Over time she forgave me and we are now very close.

That is the story of my five charges.
