That just doesn't make sense.

As much as I often dislike change and a lot of new technology (that supposedly makes our lives better), I found the online census a breeze and was happy to do it that way.

Just wish results would come out faster

I threw out around 4 letters so just waiting for the field people to come round to our home and do it in person like the good old days.

Wow, 4?

We only got one.

In one of those 3 letters after census date,  it would have told you how to arrange this.

Cause I think they should come round and do it like they are supposed to that's what they get paid for.

Also just lazy if they want to come over and do it with us then fine if not then no harm done in not taking part.

Got news for you pal. Statistics New Zealand decided to change the way they collect census data. It's now online or optional paper copies. People going around door to door with a satchel over their shoulders are now consigned to history.

Sounds like the census is optional then full stop.

its 2018.

But if you read the letters, they were sounding like they really wanted to help you complete it by dropping off forms. At a guess, they would no doubt have made time for you and sit down to complete this (but stats wont make that public).  Hence they have these people trying to get people such as yourself complete them.

No, it's not optional. You are required by law to fill out the census online. Now stop acting up like a kid.

You know - the attitude of people who refuse to do their part to be useful members of society is disappointing... Looking forward to your next post complaining about Government services - but hey, if people did the census without being sooks, maybe we'd have better public services and facilities as a result...

Grow up is the phrase that comes to mind...

Update:

They have now sent a fourth letter to us and my mother got to the post before I could so I was unable to throw it away she said I have to do it etc etc

It's amazing how they haven't sent anyone over instead choosing to send us 4 letters. where are the field people from the past? More people made redundant..

I saw people census visiting houses in my suburb last week, so they're still around and actively chasing people.

I live in an apartment building.  One day last week ~30% of the mailboxes had follow up packs sticking out of them. I've seen the guy from stats there twice.

This is a building with a relatively young demographic.

It's a sad fact that the younger demographic are pretty much useless at doing stuff like this, but some changes are needed to the way we do these things...

When someone enrols or gets added to the Electoral Roll, we should collect their email address from them at that time. Emails should be crossed referenced so that only one person can enrol using one email address. When the time comes to vote, census, referendum etc - those that have recorded email addresses should simply receive an email with a link for them to perform that function. Surely it isn't rocket science...

Lucky when my mum did hers she did mine for me I had a quick look and said ''I'm not doing that'' but being a good mum she did mine for me I told her not to bother with them nobody is holding a gun to our head.\

Anyway all done now hopefully another 20 years before they decide to do another one. She said it was easy and most questions didn't apply.

Of course you wont say no to the improved services that the gathered and analysed data can bring.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

It's not random. It's every five years. I suggest you inform yourself before posting on Geekzone.
