White thugs have apologised in tears to black men. Anyone who doesn't realise what an enormous step this is, has never been in Mississippi.

The cynical in me says they are crying because they are going to jail. Nothing else.

The "I'm sorry I got caught" aspect as opposed to sorry for doing the thing.

Doesn't matter. They are going to jail. Because of what they did to black men. That is a very big deal.

Bung: They are going to a jail that they have filled.

Which will be their biggest problem.

Strength has changed as well. ;-) Maybe from 40% to 25% now (best guess).

The previous one was by appointment to HM the Queen, I assume the new one is for King Charles. Standards are really slipping with her gone.

Rat foot found by child chewing on Te Awamutu PakNSave garlic bread. Presumably a rat somehow got in the dough and made it to the mixer and was disassembled.

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2024/03/te-awamutu-mum-s-horror-after-baby-chews-on-rat-s-foot-found-in-pak-nsave-garlic-bread.html

Recently I observed contractors at my local paknsave taking apart the bulk bin area. There was a cornucopia of food stuck underneath it. Bad design. It should be raised to allow daily cleaning. Later it was put back together exactly the same way. No doubt many areas of the stores have the similar issues.

Alex Jones is the far-right Infowars owner faced defamation trial for repeatedly saying the Sandy Hook school shooting was a hoax, and ordered to pay $4.1m over the false claims.

Newsweek: in USA, solar eclipse sparks wild conspiracy theories

Social media has become awash with conspiracy theories over the upcoming total solar eclipse that will affect millions of Americans next month.

A total eclipse will be experienced in 13 states on April 8 — a rare astronomical event in which the skies briefly turn dark during daylight hours. Such events take place when the moon passes between the sun and the earth, completely blocking the face of the sun.

But despite the perfectly reasonable scientific explanation for why the eclipse is happening, it hasn't stopped conspiracy theorists from drumming up wild theories about the forthcoming astronomical event.

Known conspiracy theorist Alex Jones posted a nearly eight-minute long video on X, formerly Twitter, which claimed that the eclipse is a sign from God and that the Department of Homeland Security is preparing to "hijack" the so-called "biblical event." It gives no reason for why Homeland Security would do that.
...
[Twitter/X speculating it will cause an earthquake]

[Other speculation it caused recent hurricanes, even before the eclipse has happened]

Apparently in India, there's an extensive worry that an eclipses anywhere is risk for all pregnant women worldwide.

Even though it won't be visible in India, there's quite a few recent news item in India media, some mainstream, warning the Earth's atmosphere will be contaminated, for some unknown period of time.

It's also consider inauspicious and unlucky, again even if it's not visible.

There's frequently a disclaimer saying there's no scientific proof of any of this, but then including a long list on preventative measures.

Here's a typical example from the Times of Indian:

"Here are some of the precautions that are often recommended:

1. Avoid Outdoors: Some cultures advise pregnant women to stay indoors during an eclipse, as they believe that the
harmful rays produced during an eclipse can adversely affect the health of both the mother and the unborn child. However, there is no scientific basis for this claim. It is best to step out, once the eclipse is completely over.

2. Avoid Sharp Objects: In certain regions, pregnant women are told to avoid using knives, scissors, or other sharp objects during an eclipse to prevent the child from being born with a cleft lip or other physical abnormalities. This belief is not substantiated by scientific research. However, it is best to avoid the same if you follow these beliefs.

3. Avoid Consuming Food: Some cultures suggest that pregnant women should refrain from eating or cooking during an eclipse. There is special emphasis on no consumption of leftover food. If you feel hungry, you can eat fruit. There is no scientific evidence to support the idea that eclipse-related dietary restrictions have any impact on pregnancy.

4. Take a Bath Afterward: In some societies, it is customary for pregnant women to take a bath after the eclipse has passed, as it is believed to cleanse them of any harmful effects. While a bath is a refreshing practice, there is no scientific proof that it has a particular significance in the context of an eclipse."

Doesn't he know that it means a dragon is about to eat the sun orb and people have to bang gongs and make lots of noise to scare it away? What millennium is he living in if he doesn't know that?

Ah, Americans. Some years ago United lost my luggage in LAX and sent it out on another flight... where it ended up in Sydney. I told them Australia != NZ and to have another go. So they sent it back to LAX and tried again, and it ended up in Sydney again. "Australia still isn't NZ guys". Finally on the third try they got it to NZ.
