I have nothing against babies. I do have a near-autistic response to sharp noises. People should have every right to take babies or toddlers to public events, as the Gayfords did with Neve. This should be coupled with an obligation to immediately remove the infant if it starts to create a disturbance. Unfortunately, this is not possible on aircraft, which has been a source of real pain to me in the past. I think people who do this kind of thing, unless forced to by a genuine emergency, are selfish inconsiderate cretins. Not everybody wants to have someone else's screeching offspring imposed on them just because it is a baby.

Also a bit of issue with deaf people (someone I know) with hearing aids. When the baby hits the high pitch, they have to turn things down...

Having had a daily migraine for 11+ years, I have avoided noise for a LONG time... I have noise cancelling headphones when I fly, even the noise of the air going past the plane can be REALLY annoying.
The local mall with the echoey noise could give me panic attacks and bring me to tears.

This

I'm not sure what actrually annoys me more: That a nursing mother took a very young baby to a comedy festival show, or that the comedian asked her to take it outside.

I'd be annoyed if I were the comedian and was being distracted by a noisy baby, but I also sympathise with the mother who wanted a night out (with that said, my wife and I simply didn't go out when we had babies).

Taking babies to loud or musical especially adult events is a no-no to me. Bright lights, loud noises, loud crowd. The poor wee baby is almost certainly going to hate it and cry. The audience may have paid hundreds of dollars to see the show, only to have it completely ruined by a constantly wailing baby? Sorry, if you can't get a babysitter then skip the show. Totally selfish entitlement by the parents.

The comedian was right to ask the parent to remove the baby, but should do so repectfully.

I've been stuck with crying babies on flights and have just had to suck it up. Good over-the-ear noise cancelling headphones are very helpful here. Can't recommend them enough.

People with babies need to travel and it's worse for them than me. Interestingly I am much more tolerant having brough up my own children than I was previously. But it is not necessary to take a baby to a show. Ever.

We are going to the USA and taking kids/grandkids with us.
I have paid extra to get sky couches so the GKs can lie down and get some sleep ( as can us oldies)

Good idea - the kids will love it especially when they've turned it into a nest. Ours did and they're teenagers!

The irony of it.

Project Interview

The mother of the baby was being interviewed on The Project. In the middle of the interview the baby became unsettled and the interviewer suggested to the mother that she hand the baby to the father so they could continue the interview.

And yet I bet the irony was lost on the parents

Probably just as much as respect for the rest of the audience, who wanted to spend an undisturbed evening (perhaps even without their children, who are at home with a paid babysitter).

The two old biddies busy nattering away some way down the long, narrow corridor that leads to the public toilets in the New Lynn mall, with everyone entering or leaving the toilets having to squeeze past them to get through.  One Countworths visit later they were still in there blocking everyone's access, when all they needed to do was take a dozen steps forward to exit the narrow corridor and no longer block everyone trying to go down it.

Technofreak:

MadEngineer: Cooked tea early for my wife to take some to work only for some numpty to steal it from the staff room fridge.

I need to cook the same again but drench it in chilli sauce.

I'd be putting in some laxative.

For anyone tempted to do this, that's not a good idea.  Making food extra spicy is a legitimate thing to do with food, and the thief's fault for taking it.  Spiking it with laxative or something similar is more a declaration of war and invites retaliation.

Ordered some photochromic cycling glasses with Rx insert from a company called Saolar.

Received the glasses today and there were a few things that have annoyed me:

  1. Rx inserts were inserted in the wrong insert frame - thankfully they included the correct frame insert, but it was very hard to remove the lenses and put them in the right insert (I was afraid I'd break them)
  2. Glasses are a different brand - I ordered from and expected Saolar - I received Kapvoe
  3. Kapvoe glasses are available from Temu and Aliexpress for significantly less than I paid
  4. Quality is not what I expected

There was also no notification of shipping or anything beyond acknowledgement that my order had been received - the delivery today was quite a surprise.

I don't know if this is same site you used but this was on reddit
"THIS BRAND IS A SCAM. They buy cheap glasses from Amazon and resell them at double the price. They are the exact same models as the kapvoe sunglasses on Amazon. I called them out and asked for a return and they gave me the runaround. Don't buy these!"
