I have been cutting away some hugely overgrown thickets of wild blackberries taking over my property. These are the devil’s fruit, the plant from hell, put on this earth to make us suffer. Blackberries are almost impossible to kill. They have a hundred different ways of reproducing  and they spread like a mustard stain on a white dress. The thorns are like a million bayonets piercing through every armour. The cut vines lie hidden on the ground, waiting to entrap and stab you. There is nothing harder to get rid of, nothing more painful, nothing more frustrating, nothing more annoying.
