News stories like this, "School rewinds modern learning space".  We tried this in the 1970s and it failed.  We tried again in the 1980s and it failed.  Then we tried again in the 1990s and it failed again.  Then again in either the 2000s or 2010s (this is just the ones I'm aware of that I'm listing, anyone know if it had already failed in the 1950s or 60s?) and yet again it failed.  At the same time it was tried numerous times overseas and failed.

I guess we'll just keep on trying again and again until it suddenly starts working.  It's only taxpayer's money, it's not like it's needed for things like fixing up broken-down schools or paying teachers fair salaries or anything.

Handsomedan:

That's usually my go-to after a weekend of backbreaking work that shows little to no result.

LOL. We have about 60 pavers in a crappy looking patio by the bottom lawn, each 600x600x40 and weigh about 25kg. They are set on a thin layer of concrete on top of scoria so each has about 25mm of concrete and scoria stick to the bottom.

Wifey wanted me to get rid of them. Oh, and there's no direct vehicle access there so they have to be humped down some steps to the driveway. I'm nearly 60 and she thinks I'm up to picking up and moving 1.5 tonne of hard fill!

So get in a contractor and ask how much to pick up and take this away - $4k!!! Clean hard fill is not that expensive to tip. So they are charging around $3.5k or $58 per paver to pick it up carry it a short distance and toss it into a truck or skip! A weekend of back breaking labour followed by several days of being unable to stand up straight here we come. Oh joy.

Doesn't sound like it needs a huge amount of skill.  Could you not hire a skip and get someone (or more) from Student Job Search, or some strong young folk from your local community for some cash and a box of beers?

I've had to make a chiropractor appointment just from reading your post.

They are just taking the Pss with that pricing because they don't want the work.

Get a bin and see if anyone wants some work on the local facebook pages and someone will probably volunteer their kids for it.

Another option if you've got the contacts is a local rugby team or similar, friend of mine used that to move some ornamental rocks around in exchange for a cash donation for new uniforms or something similar.

Before you start on this, consider the back damage and physio costs that may entail.  There are some things that I now leave to younger bodies if possible.

Also be aware of the lifting limit of a flexi bin, they have refused to take a friends one because they were well over what should have been in it and they would not lift it. He had to get a second, move stuff over and then pay again for 2x pickups.

If you go through SJS, ask for a farmers son, they will be more up top the task than others.
I used one and he did such an awesome job that I paid him an extra $100 because he had achieved more than I had expected

As an e-scooter rider this annoys me, the CCC are spending many millions on narrowing roads and footpaths to install dedicated cycle lanes, which are illegal for any transportation method except bikes.

So if you've got an e-scooter, you've got to take your chances on a narrow road with 50km/h cars, or a narrow footpath with pedestrians and drivers pulling out of the driveway like a bat outta hell.

Thanks CCC and NZTA for endangering e-scooter riders. Good job.

How is enforcement handled?  If it's not automated, do you think anyone will bat an eyelid if you use the bike lane?  As someone who was unaware of the law until I saw your post, I'd more or less expect e-scooters to take the bike lane, as opposed to the footpath.

Yeah, would definitely get the low height 3.5m3 metal skip bin for hardfill. The pavers are about 1m3 in volume and a bit over 1500Kg at a rough guess. Only a few hundred bucks to hire the bin for a week.

Stick them on TradeMe for $1 reserve "pick up only". Someone will likely try and re-use them somewhere.

How do I know? My mother-in-law bought a literal ton of old pavers on TradeMe and father-in-law and I had to go and pick them up...

I had some ugly giant scoria rocks that the previous house owners had thought made a good garden decoration and someone took them away for me on a dollar reserve. Turns out that ugly crap was actually quite expensive to get in large pieces the size of a wheelybin but I had no use for it so away it went.

Will you ship to Waikikamukau? I need them by tomorrow.
