richms: Mine does not do that on any phone I have. there was an option on set up that was to keep logged in when switching apps which was defaulted to on.

Ah, that was it, buried in the settings.  I never got given the option on install, didn't know it existed until now.  What a stupid default to have.

"How nice it's secure by default!" would be another way of looking at that.... ;-)

Secure in what way?  If you've got malware on your phone you're owned either way, and if you don't then it's irrelevant.

Now to just see if it fails before or after bags for it stop being available, whereas the old tellus I use in the shed that was my grandparents still works, and you can still get bags for it despite being about 40 years old now.

Thought about that, doesn't worry me. For $70 I can afford to buy a new one every couple of years. So far it's working out fine. It also comes with a reusable bag that I am saving for when I need it.

I prefer to not contribute to excessive waste because a low quality retailer decides to move on from one rebadged piece of crap to another rebadged piece of crap with their made up name on it.

I stick to ryobis from bunnings for my cheap vacs. Only con is the cord length. Have massive bag sizes, and good wheels on them.

According to what a service worker at Bunnings told me, Ryobi is the only brand that doesn't do repairs. If its under warranty they just replace it and bin the old one. If its not, you are just out of luck. I know this because I tried to get a faulty charger repaired at my expense as I prefer not to contribute to excessive waste.

I tried to find a main powered router...everyone is headed to battery tools because batteries are like printer ink, they die and the profits on new ones is high.

Ended up with a cheap Bosch from Mitre 10 as it was cheaper than a bare "skin" for my ryobi , has more grunt, will last a life time with no additional costs.

I don't know how true that is. I've seen Bunning's staff destroying warranty returns for several different brands before throwing them in the skip bin.

Sure thing, Mr Aramex. Just jam that parcel into the letterbox. You can make anything fit in there if you just push hard enough. You absolute turnip.

Had that last week with a chap from whatever courier company Temu uses (kicking horse, or something?) - tried so hard to jam the parcel into the letterbox (I watched from our camera) and then had to try and fish it back out when he realised he hadn't scanned the barcode!

The today, the same bloke threw a package over our fence and onto our front deck - right by where I was sitting in my home office - nearly have me a heart attack! Do they knwo what's insode? Do they know if it can withstand a good throw from distance?

Another annoyance today is my HomePod Mini stereo pair. Often playing through just the one speaker and having to be either reset or unplugged to regain the stereo abailities.
They work so well, when they work - but it's becoming less frequent.

The person who told me this was a Bunnings employee staffing the service desk. I can only report what I was told. However, after this encounter I complained to management about the lack of repairability which resulted in a dialogue and an offer from Ryobi to replace the charger even though it was out of warranty. At that moment the cyclone struck and other things took priority and I didn't pursue it further.

I'm bad. The 40-year-old Tellus I use hasn't had a bag in it for over 35 years. Suction has always been better without it. I have washed out the cloth barrier a few times. Using a bag would mean I could be less careful when emptying it.

It works like ubereats where any random person can do it and people take it on alongside their ubereats jobs. Get it sent to a PO Box if you can because they just hand them over to NZ post.

MadEngineer: Tachycardia and customs. They must have picked up on my elevated heart rate through a fancy camera or something as I just got “randomly” drug swabbed twice at two different airports.

If Customs has a camera that can do that, various medical facilities and first responders would like to have a chat.

Six things:

  1. People using my email address because they either lie on a form or don't know what their email address is.
  2. Companies sometimes put the Unsubscribe page behind their Web Application Firewall (WAF), and a rule blocks access from outside their country.
  3. Companies that don't automatically fill out the unsubscribe form with the email address so you have to type it.
  4. Passive aggressive questions like "Why are you unsubscribing?" and one of the options is "I did not subscribe or I don't remember subscribing to this list" when they should be separate options.
  5. Companies that put a "Unsubscribed by mistake? Click the button to subscribe again" after the confirmation
  6. Companies that send an email confirming your removal from the list.
