Handle9: That pubescent girls can be such bitches to each other.

Without going into too much detail miss 12s friend group is being targeted by some other girls in her class. It’s such nasty nonsense.

It's not limited to girls, holy crap some of the nonsense my son has seen. It's not surprising some kids find it too much.

Kids in general can just be so horrible to each other.

Girls take it to the nek level.

Family member ran a bernados home for a while and also reports the girls were way more psycho to each other than the boys.

Stuff like 'I've been peeing in your shampoo for the last few weeks' .

Fun and games.

Most of the posters in this thread are just like chimpanzees on MDMA, full of feelings of bonhomie, joy, and optimism. Fred99 8/4/21

Girls can hold a grudge for life.

Do you not remember the old style match books, they were made of cardboard and you had to use the flap/cover to hold the match against the striking surface

I do remember those ones! Garages / hotels etc used to give them away as marketing. That was the time when every one smoked. Now they just vape :-(

It was bad enough in my day, but at least then we didn't have to worry about the social media effect on top off.

The people who scoffed when it was suggested that moving all cars to electric in NZ wouldn't be possible due to lack of power infrastructure and generation.

Most people either charge their cars off their own solar, or they charge on the night rate power which is from 9pm to 7am.

We do lack any substantial new/planned renewable power generation thats not affected by the weather (sun/wind), and that the transmission lines between the islands are nearing capacity with no replacement in the near future (early 2030's).

PBT who are normally one of the better couriers having a "failed delivery" yesterday but on arriving home, there was no card left and no sign of any attempt on camera.

Call the local depot within their stated business hours this morning "Sorry, you are calling outside of hours, goodbye".

Call the national number and they look it up to find that they couldn't find the address.

Really?  Did you even try?  It's not hidden.  Even Aramex can find it without issue (though they cannot read signs and labels that say to leave on back door step).

That reduces peak loading, not over all power consumption.

To replace the energy we get from fossil fuels our electricity supply will need to be 4 times bigger.

Meantime, home heating is also using heat pumps (efficient) instead of fire places and gas heating, worse it is also being used during summer to keep the house cool too.

Combine that with less snow, and hence less run off during summer, we end up with our hydro lakes (and the environment) being starved of water.

BUT coming up next will be the cost of shifting whole communities, rebuilding infrastructure as well as the cost of other climate mitigation/repairs. Never mind the additional costs of new crop diseases , new pests, new human illnesses etc due to climate change, AND worst of all, countries holding onto resources (copper, aluminium, iron, etc etc etc) as they will be wanting to keep them for their own future use. Meantime the cost of shipping goods  weill also go through the roof meaning countries like NZ will have much lower exports due to food miles costing a lot of money making local produce cheaper by comparison.

That "backbone" of NZ may be what kills us as alternative forms of income are not pushed hard enough .

this quote shows the problem of not regulating EV fast chargers

"The government has promised there will be rules here, too, to match a roll-out of 10,000 more chargers by 2030, such as with standards to help shift home-charging away from network peaks.

Running all at once, 10,000 fast chargers would suck up almost as much power as all of Auckland".

Common sense is not as common as you think.

doesn't really, because most EV owners don't charge in peak periods because it's the most expensive electricity.

Having the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) standard in the chargers is a start, as it would allow network operators to temporarily stop the charging, but as mentioned most aren't charging that these times.

But its just another case of the governments being reactive, not proactive. Prevent the problem, not wait till there is a problem then react.

I charge whenever I feel like it because the power is a flat rate. All the plans with an incentive to use offpeak have a worse onpeak rate than I get already and since the car is such a small amount of my usage, there is no point in me being on those plans just to be able to shuffle things around to save a few $10s each month.

When I can be bothered digging a ditch I will upgrade the garage supply but till then the 10A granny cable gets me all I need over the weekend and perhaps the odd overnight charge during the week.

You are an exception then. Over 80% charge off-peak, and 10% from solar during the day. You also sound like you don't drive as much as some and because you are using a granny charger, you are not one of the people they are worried about.

He forgot to mention that he's also running a data centre, three heated swimming pools, a 20-ton forging press, a roller mill, and a a rotary converter.  You know the Transpower warning about running out of electricity earlier this week?  Well...
