Yeap, sure. The council should account for people’s stupidity.

On the other hand, people have to account for the council's stupidity: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/auckland-couple-furious-after-tree-falls-on-meadowbank-home-in-storm-following-pleas-to-remove-it/M5X7M7LGZNC3XIM6TNNL5ZJU7E/

Our bins are collected about midday

Until the day they are not...... all it takes is a different driver to run the area differently

we had a huge uproar in one of our local streets, bins normally emptied at about 4pm and they went through at 730am, half the street missed out. Wanted the council to come recollect them. TBH not the council's fault you didn't have your bin out.

Council said to have them out by 7am (on their website). With some main roads having theirs emptied at 6am so as no to cause congestion.

If they didn't notify that the collection time was changing (which it sounds like they didn't), then in my opinion they should indeed re-collect.

Sometimes if there's a lot to collect they'll put a 2nd truck on starting at the end of the run and working back.

The cost of shipping things around NZ.

If I order photo gear from Auckland, it now costs more than buying a cheap flight to Auckland to ship it. New camera bag just cost $75 in shipping by NZ Couriers. That was overnight to the local depot.

I sent something up to the same place for repair recently and even basic tracked NZ Post was $45.

Despite a $4,000 rates bill, we get no rubbish collection at all and are expected to buy council bin bags at $3.50 each if we want to take our own rubbish to the dump.

Couriers dont want casual customers is what it comes down to. That is why they are pushing you to buy thru the likes of gosweetspot or even trademe book a courier instead of taking things to a retail shop to send. That gives them predictability on what loads are going where. The price on random drop off or tickets to get picked up is way higher than when you book and print it.

For larger things look into mainfreight or similar, their depot to depot pricing is about as good as you will get on things 15+ kgs between islands unless you are doing a pallet load.

Without knowing weight and size involved $75 is meaningless. Try ordering something say 10kg of nails from an Auckland building hardware supplier and see what freight they'd charge. The shipper could be loading the freight fee.

The $75 deliver was from a camera shop using Gosweetspot. It weighed 1.5kg but volume was about two large shoe boxes equivalent.

Compare the order I just made from a US company shipped with free FedEx!

In addition - this is why so many rural dwellers around here just burn their rubbish, plastic and all. We don’t, but I know it’s not uncommon. I even know farmers that bury it in an old quarry.
