Standing over the sink just finishing washing greasy pans and one AirPod Pro dropped into the icky water. Fished it out super fast and wrapped in a towel. Cursed my stupidity and ears that don’t snugly fit any in-ear devices. Followed instructions on what to do next which also included playing sounds specifically for water in AirPods. Huh? Who knew, but the Sound Guys suggested it.

At first it made a few donk noises but this morning appears to have clear sound again after I left it all night covered with every silica pack I could find. Luckily it wasn’t my 2nd Gen pair which I keep for 'best' and don’t use them where they can drop out while walking.

Wondering if they are like odd socks and if people have one good Airpod sitting in a drawer and if you buy it how will that work and pair with your other one if it’s a different serial number etc. I’ve seen single ones on trade me.

Yep, you can buy 1 EarPod from Apple, I did that when I lost one.

I'd be glad to be wrong, but I gather.

That we do not have public transport cards that are interoperable up and down the country.
Auckland AT card can't be used in Northland or Hamilton for example.
Christchurch have their own Metrocard limited to them ?
Wellington snapper I guess its the same.
Beecard used elsewhere in regions including Hamilton can't be used in Auckland etc.

In some places overseas transit cards can also be used in convenience stores
,parking etc around transit centers as well.
Japan , Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan probably elsewhere.

Call me weird but the public transport in Sydney was one of my favourite things as a tourist to have had the pleasure of using.  Firing up their app or even using google maps for the same path plotting to get from a to z was a heap of fun

There's 1 on TM described as new out of box no jug for $89 buy now. Pick up Albany. Appears to be less than price of parts.

I'm not in AK, but there are a few others there so that might work.

If you have trouble with the AirPods Pro fitting well, you should definitely give the Comply Foam tips a go.
I am allergic to the silicone used in most in-ear devices, but the Comply Foam ones are great - with the added bonus that they lock the AirPods in really snugly and comfortably.
Not cheap, but a great solution for those without the perfect Apple-shaped ears.

At least I should be able to get a matching replacement without too much trouble.

Or so I thought. Briscoes online support has elected to go with the "try fobbing him off" technique, so hopefully the local shop will be better. Hopefully.

Good grief. I haven't made it out to the local Briscoes yet so I tried my luck with online support again.

Me: I'd like to do a special order for one of these please.

Them: Sorry for the inconvenience. As a one-off we can compensate you with a $10 gift card.

Me: ??? How does this help me get the item you haven't placed an order for?

I'm actually starting to wonder whether they sent me the response to a different customer's request.

So yeah, going to head into the local at some point and hope I get somebody competent.

Horizons Manawatu Palmerston North city bus map.

If you have any kind of visual disability, especially colour blindness, or you have reading/intellectual/etc disabilities the map is worse than useless.

I DONT WANT their beeping App on my phone, I want their map to be slightly modified so it makes sense, ie put the route numbers at the ends of each route, problem solved

I had an easier time using the bus map in Rome (and I don't speak Italian) than I do with the ones that Horizons have of PNth.

I saw these mentioned a while back, and as someone who gets ridiculously itchy ears with silicone tips (on Samsung Galaxy Buds), I was interested, but the price put me off. Luckily, Aliexpress and other crapvendors have knock-offs that let you test if the foam fixes the problem. I've been very impressed so far, and may end up getting the genuine ones at some point.

Something like these might be a good starting point to test the concept.

Good grief.

It's starting to sound like a no-signature delivery is a requirement, not an option!

I ordered some foam ones from Amazon US and to be honest they didn’t make much difference. Ears are shallow and small. Even bought a silicone cable thing that attaches to the pods but then you can’t put the buds in the charger without taking them on and off each time and that feels like it puts a lot of pressure on the buds as they were quite tight, so I cut them down then they were sort of better but still a faff to get on and off. Also bought a hook thingie that attaches to the buds and hooks over the ear. Hopeless. Shape was all wrong.

Can't remember the last time I was asked for a signature to begin with.

But anyway, my fave courier - I see Aramex aren't even honest / brave enough on their tracking page to leave 'Delayed' showing any more. I guess they know it would be a permanent condition. Now they just change expected delivery each time to the current date.

Whilst on the subject of couriers...

Courier dropped a package off today - literally. Lean over the gate, let go of the package onto the concrete path.

Not the first time this clown has done so.

Thankfully, no damage to this parcel. Won't always be the case.

If it is that poorly packed that it couldn't sustain that treatment whoever sent it is dreaming if they expect it to arrive in one piece.

You think it's annoying? Imagine I'm managing a business page, and Google accepts change suggestions from anyone and don't let me, the page admin, know of these changes.

Every few weeks I have to look at the data because there's no way to keep it factual with Google accepting anyone's changes.
