The entitled attitude of the Git who 'organised' the recent street burnout in Levin

Saying on TV news that he would tell the Police Minster to "Get F****d" when asked about the ministers ideas on how to curb this anti social behaviour.

Then this gem  "He also claimed he and other car enthusiasts would not have meet-ups in the street if they had somewhere specifically for burnouts and skids."

W*F? You are capable of 'organising' a burnout but don't have the gumption to figure out that if you want a specific venue to do this without doing it on public streets you need to make efforts do some thing about getting that venue. It doesn't magically happen by itself.

Don't expect others to do it for you.

Definitely agree, and also - that's a good laser distance meter, I have the same one and can't fault it.

Not sure how I copied the incorrect link. Now fixed in my original post.

Yep, Just bought one myself. Works very well. Good price at Placemakers ATM.

Hoons in my area seem to have a regular meet in a planned industrial area. All the roads are there not many buildings. Buildings are slowly going up. It won't last forever. Maybe they will find somewhere new when it's built out.

Cars occassionaly accelerate past the playground. That's concerning. There are more visitors to that now and maybe the hoons are starting to avoid that particular road although I see a few meeting close by.

When you think about it it's a hard problem. No sane public authority is going to build them an ideal area like that and say go for it. People would be killed. But yeah some of the semi-sanctioned meetups in designated areas actually seem to work well for 97% of the activity and blow off the required amount of steam.

Ah yes, the old build a burnout facility chestnut.

Imagine spending that money only to find it doesn't get used.  These fruit loops are of course doing it for the notoriety.

Yep, the old "well give us somewhere to go" thing has been around for at least the last 20+ years I've been involved in genuine motorsport.  We tried organising some Thursday night motorkhanas in the Hutt Riverbank carpark some years ago.  20 of us motorsport people came along and enjoyed the night play session while the "boyracers" watched from the stop bank, then, as soon as we'd packed up and gone, they went right back to doing their burnouts and donuts etc.

So yeah, we "gave them an opportunity" but they did not want to be bound by any sort of rules.

There are many designated burnout and drag facilities around the country at established motorsport venues.  Unfortunately the fact that it costs money to keep them maintained, cleaned and safe is lost on the entitled crowd who have zero respect for any venue whether it's legit or not.  Just look at the volume of trash left after any of these "meetups".

Yes it's all just a cost. Hard problem. Massive sponsorship, prizes, free beer, and some talented event management required to pull it off on a weekly basis. None of that is easy.

I had the impression there are/were one or two regular events which were working well. Maybe they were headlines initially and failed quickly.

There actually was a burnout pad in Levin maybe 10-15 years ago. Think the usual scum-baggery got it closed eventually. That intersection is a bloody mess, was only repaired a few months ago too

Wouldn't be surprised if flipping off the cops is part of the appeal for serial hoons.

"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

I've put this into the annoy forum since it's such a no-brainer to get right.  This is how countries who don't have AT running things do cycle lanes:

Clearly marked bike lanes as part of pedestrian areas.  Then for road crossings:

So the bike lane is part of the pedestrian crossing, which means traffic stops behind it so unless the lights are green for cars, cyclists have a clear run along the bike path.  A lot of the time it's a clear run (the lanes are routed to minimise vehicle traffic flow across them), so much so that I had to wait awhile to get these photos because of the constant stream of cyclists using the lanes.

Contrast this with the AT approach of throwing as many obstacles as possible in the way of vehicles and hoping that people decide that taking a bike is less painful than taking a car.  Nowhere did I see any of the bollocks that AT is doing in Auckland, just stuff like this that actually works.

This is exactly how they do it in Stockholm. Footpaths split in half by a painted line. Bikes always on the kerbside, pedestrians on the inside. Cost equals paint and a painter.  Our Councils prefer ripping up car parking and building wide concrete strips to separate the cycles from the cars which are reduced to one lane. Money that costs us ratepayers thousands more each year and no amount of arguing changes their view.

I add that Stockholm also has dedicated walking and biking lanes among apartment buildings so that people don’t need to use the main roads.

Yeah the Palmy B'tardisation of Featherston st got the go head to continue based on the "Sunk cost fallacy" and how it was going to cost $5 Million to put hit back to normal.
I see it being "normalised" in a few years for a significantly MORE of rate payers money.

Meantime, I will not go near this intersection , so businesses on Rangitikei Line from Grey St through to Tremaine avenue and a everything on Featherston St....Cheers but I won't be using you, I will shop on line or go elsewhere.

Apparently that’s been installed due to the number of accidents at that intersection. I looked up the data and the whole street is an accident zone.
