MadEngineer:

Maybe they need this in Levin

What in the world is that even supposed to be?!

It's the world's cheapest & nastiest "mini roundabout"

Zigg:

There actually was a burnout pad in Levin maybe 10-15 years ago. Think the usual scum-baggery got it closed eventually. That intersection is a bloody mess, was only repaired a few months ago too

The tyre marks are already fading away. The road surface was levelled to reduce the thumping noise of the trucks.

Apparently one thing being considered for problem areas is a coarse chip seal.

You know what's annoying? Paying over $20k for a "cheap" bathroom upgrade and having to get the builder back to fix things that are out of his control, but which shouldn't happen -

  • Rust forming inside the shower handle, dripping rusty stains down the new shower door.
  • Rust forming on the insides of the shower door hinges.
  • Mirror starting to deteriorate already - it's showing signs of "rust" or something similar, behind the glass.
  • Excessive mould build-up in the silicone sealant, that seems not to want to die, regardless of what we are using to clean it
  • Ceiling fan has decided to fall out of the ceiling.

Our old bathroom, which was 30 years old had its issues (like a leaking shower that started to rot the floor), but the mirroe wasn't corroded, there was never any rust issues and mould was at acceptable levels for a damp space.

The shower enclosure he used is one that he's used in several builds and he's never had issues before, but he's going to put it right - he's been having a running battle with the manufacturers for a couple of months now and they've finally come to the party with a new handle and chrome parts set - hopefully it'll stop the rust, but I don't know what we're going to do about the mirror.

It's a shame, because at a superficial level, the bathroom looks great - floor, tiling, bath, cabinetry all good - but this shower, mirror and ceiling fan really have taken the gloss off.

You could turn the rust into art like the Italians:

Where is the sealant? The instructions for most showers probably say to only apply the sealant where it won't be seen after all the trim etc is fitted. Unless you keep any contamination from your fingers from the sealant it is difficult to stop mould. Our shower was originally installed with a bead of seal up the inside of the glass frame. The latest instructions say the sealer goes down the middle of the channel on the wall so none shows.

The silicone that's going mouldy is around the base of the shower glass.

It was only installed 6-7 months ago.

Shouldn't wet-areas silicone have fungicides as an additive?

There are silicone sealing strips around glass that gets mould under the stuff in most bathrooms I have seen. Its not necessarily the sealant type.

I've just been in Hospital and had almost every blood test possible, with the results sent to my Medical Practice.

Today I get an email telling me my Annual Blood Tests are now due, and a form has been sent to the Blood Lab for me to make an appointment.

What a waste of everyone's time (Mine, blood taker, lab tech, results person etc) and the $$$ paid!

Sheesh!

It's only a waste of time and money if you repeat any of the tests? Your GP has access to the hospital tests.

I get that email every year too. I don't recall getting charged for the test or for my GP to read the results and email me to say it's all normal.

You missed the point that someone is paying for the testing, and if it is the same as last year then they have been already done. Automation can create waste!

Ugh it’s just one thing after another (cars, house maintenance problems etc) at the moment burning cash. It’s not the end of the world just a bit frustrating.
