Came up during a discussion: Why do people (voluntarily) eat chokos? They taste of nothing, they have no texture, they're just tasteless pap.

Chokos are known as chuchu in Brazil. They are disgusting and my mum wanted me to eat them when I was a kid.

I think that's the universal exposure to them :-). Even my diehard vegetarian friend didn't like them. Reminds me of spoo:

According to Straczynski, spoo "are the only creatures of which the Interstellar Animal Rights Protection League says, simply, 'Kill 'em.'"

Probably, like many parents, with the tag line "It's good for you".

My reply to that now is "That doesn't make it taste any better".  Obviously would not have gotten away with that as a kid.

You've got spargel, no taste, no texture, not even colour, just pasty mushy nothing, there's no need to import chokos if you grow the equivalent locally:

I really like them, but then I love all vegetables other than Olives.

Everyone in my household loves them.

My whole family would eat Brussel Sprouts all year around if they were available.

Pretty confident, had I have said that to my mother, my head would still be spinning from the slap across the face I could have gotten, 30+ years later.

I have to admit, as a kid I hated Brussel sprouts, but these days I find the taste oddly pleasing. There's so much you can do with different sauces too.

Roasted Brussels sprouts with garlic and olive oil are very nice. Even better when paired with a steak.

I'm very sorry for you. South of the city is one of the largest main growing areas for white, local asparagus and I can only say that it tastes excellent if you know how to treat and cook it properly. In comparison the green asparagus is stronger, more cabbage-like. So here people are fighting for places in the country inns as the season is about to start. It‘s currently about 20€/kg (34 NZD/kg) on the farmer‘s markets.

… in addition sprinkle a few roasted, sliced almonds over the Brussels sprouts. 😉
