Has anyone bought a tablet into NZ using youshop recently? Are the lithium batteries in tablets ok? Considering getting an Amazon Fire on Prime day, prices are pretty good.

I had one come via shipito and it had all the lithium warnings all over the box so I think that NZ post would flip out over that.

I haven't used shipitto for a while, how much do they cost to send a tablet these days? Still curious if anyone has tried you shop recently.

Youshop's help says

Electronic items can be shipped from the USA when:

  • An electronic device includes a pre-installed battery and packed in manufacturer's packaging

So it's probably ok. Still interested if anyone's actually imported a phone or tablet recently with youshop.

I haven't used youshop for a long time, but wanted to make use of prime day so bought some stuff.

Amazon reports parcels were delivered 24+ hours ago, yet nothing showing up in youshop. Is there some form of "usual" delay?

Yep, that is pretty normal, I get the notifications overnight usually, so you should see it tonight hopefully.

It is also possible that they have a heap of parcels from other people doing the same as you on Prime Day and that has slowed them down.

Yes, it can take a few days when they're busy, and prime day will make them very busy.

Sigh. Understandable I guess during Prime day, I just want my new toy! (2nd Gen Echo Show).

does anyone know if they can repack after consolidation? faq says they 'might' but the cost after consolidation was immediately available even though it's eligible for repacking. 3.4kg more volumetric than actual weight... bruh

Has anyone had any luck sending a parcel to youshop in the last couple of days? I had placed orders in the past few days no issue, but unfortunately, my item arrived faulty and neither the Amazon rep or the automated system will allow me to ship an item there.

Would someone mind trying to see if they can ship. It errors out well before payment options, so you don't need to worry about actually shipping anything.

My prime day order arrived at the warehouse a few days ago and was dispatched for NZ this morning.

Same. My items arrived and are faulty, so trying to place an order today, neither myself or the CSR could get the order placed to that address.

I received an email from YouShop today :

"From 1 December 2019, all items purchased from overseas and shipped to your YouShop address will have 15% Goods & Services Tax (GST) applied. GST will be charged on the total value of the goods and YouShop services purchased.

What does this mean to me if I’m using YouShop?

If you’re buying from overseas retailers and shipping to your YouShop address, the retailer will not charge GST at the point of purchase (as they will not be aware that the items’ final destination is NZ). Instead, NZ Post will collect the GST on all purchases (irrespective of value) on behalf of the New Zealand Government, when you pay for your shipping to NZ through YouShop."

So it would appear it doesn't matter that something maybe be below the customs threshold, YouShop will still collect GST.

I expect that this may reduce the amount of custom they receive, particularly for cheaper items.

The GST legislation was quite broad so as to include such things. E.g. AliExpress, eBay and Amazon Marketplace are meant to pay, even though the individual tranders may be under the threshold for registering for GST.

So I guess the only way NZ Post will know what the value of the goods are (to calculate the GST to be charged) is by the value you have to enter yourself in the 'what is the value of the goods' field?
Unless they start demanding to see the actual proof of the amount paid, but can't see this happening.
