Jase2985:

because if you actually read what I wrote

"If it were rated R it would be illegal for the teacher to show it to the kids, and they could be up for charges because of it."

Then i quoted the classifications people to back up that statement

I did indeed read what you wrote, but I missed that networkn had said it was rated R. It therefore appeared that your discussion of an R rating was out of left field, and this also made me conclude that FineWine had picked up the R rating from your post.

Apologies.

The thing that gets my goat though, is the way his peers have treated him since, giving him absolute hell for finding it too scary and graphic.  My kids would never treat anyone that way, and my son is really struggling with the level of negative attention.

Kids can be nasty little shits.

Lord of the flies wasn’t really apocryphal. Pubescent boys are largely a pack of rock apes. Having girls around generally helps a bit but they can be pretty shitty as well.

They’ll grow out of it but can do some shitty stuff along the way.

An update to my last annoyance about the crap my kid was given for not wanting to watch Gladiator for a film review in English in year 10.

The teacher has come back of their own accord to address my son, saying they understand his reasons, and will support him with another movie choice.

The class was offered a vote of which movie to watch and 3 choices were offered, majority picked Gladiator.

Another kid has come forward and said he's extremely uncomfortable but won't say anything for fear of the crap he will be given, reinforced by what happened to my Son.

It does appear to have died down quickly, just a few special characters continuing. Thankfully, my Son has strong values and won't let himself be deterred from those.

Sadly MAGS is boys only for most classes until year 12 think it is. As you say, rock apes.

Welcome to capitalism. Come on in (if you’ve got cash.)

Actually I think the USA has moved past capitalism and onto exploitation.

Firedrills - especially when it's cold out.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

I find the worst ones are the ones that happen 5 minutes before you are due to leave for the day.  Especially since I'm a floor warden.

Recently, my sons class started with Gladiator which has an R rating. He is year 10. He had a bit of a freak out at the level of violence and blood and requested to leave the classroom. He has addressed the fact he feels uncomfortable with the film, with the teacher and asked to do another, in his own time, meeting all the academic requirements of the project, and the teacher has agreed, though has made multiple mentions that without being present for the film and doing a different film will put him at a disadvantage.

The thing that gets my goat though, is the way his peers have treated him since, giving him absolute hell for finding it too scary and graphic.  My kids would never treat anyone that way, and my son is really struggling with the level of negative attention.

I was in form 4 / year 10 when Gladiator was released and so the Latin class (not me) got to go and see it on the big screen. One boy got a bit teary at the end when Maximus dies - and people brought it up through to the end of his school days. I thought kids may have changed since then, but apparently not.

So what happens then? Spend 5 mins shuffling people out then go home?

There's the 5ish minutes of clearing the floor and waiting at the warden point for the building to be cleared.  Then 5 mins of debrief.  And 10 mins of waiting for the stairwells to clear in order to return to desk, grab my bag and then depart.

Can't be seen, as a warden, taking your bag with you as it's hard enough stopping everyone else from carrying their coffee, laptops, bags, whatever out with them.

The NZ Herald homepage being taken over by sponsored stories for MetlifeCare. Being signed in doesn't seem to make any difference either.

It's this kind of practical thinking which is sadly lacking from todays workplaces.
