On-street parking across Auckland to have charges applied in near future

So...in a city where the public transport network outside the main arteries is absolutely horrific, riding a scooter or bike is not always the best option, due to weather, hills, theft (in the case of bikes) etc, they want to make parking anywhere near a public transport hub, set of shops, place of interest or otherwise high-traffic area cost the drivers.

You can't do this without addressing the issue first - the public transport network. People drive to PT hubs, so that they can actually get to work without driving in all the way - they can't or won't use PT all the way as it's inconvenient, ill-timed, non-existent or filled with low-life criminals (often youth who face no consequences).
Anyone who has tried to actively use the AKL bus network for anything other than hub-to-hub transport will know what I mean.

They also want to try and push for charging businesses in main centres who have their own off-street parking on a per-space basis. Because it encourages the use of cars. Despite everything stated above.

It's already hard enough to get around this city. AT want to make it harder, without addressing the solutions - they just want to attack the symptoms.

Brain dead and reactionary.

Shouldn't this be in the smile thread, given that your one presumably didn't explode?

Is it just me or does the photo from the article of the AT spokesperson being interviewed:

look like someone being questioned by the police about the contents of their browser cache?  He really, really doesn't want to be there.

When apps go bad

Challenge will be my wife getting petrol.  Caltex yesterday was myself.  Caltex today was myself trying to use the app but it kept failing so had to go inside and pay.  That should be one $40 transaction.

Why are they taking and putting back a mower-cans worth of fuel so much? Was it erroring or just doing it on its own?

New electric car suddenly stopped recognising my iPhone and wouldn’t enable Apple CarPlay.

This despite it working just a few hours ago.

Multiple Google searches later I found a Reddit post that helped me to reset my car entertainment system and re-enable CarPlay.

I hope EVs don't develop the sort of end-of-life that phones do, where you have to replace it prematurely due to being "no longer supported".

"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

Because this is a geek forum can you enlighten us on the car and the method used to re-initiate the entertainment system please.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

It kept stating that there was an error.  I walked into the shop with it still on my screen and they simply said it's "because of the internet".  I took that to mean my own phone but when I rang their 0800 number they suggested it was a connectivity issue when they go to check the pump itself.  You'd think that check would be done prior to pulling money out of my account.

Equally annoying was when I walked back into the shop they said it's paid but I'd not had the usual ding from Westpac to say that I'd had a debit from my CC.  I repeated that it didn't go through (because I'm honest) and paid $40 over the counter.  That then generated a single notification ding from the Westpac app and I thought all was well until I tapped it to see multiple transactions.

I buy a product. A couple of weeks later I get "please leave a review". I ignore it. A week or two later I get "you haven't left a review". I give an honest 4-star review. A couple of hours later I get "can you please change your review to 5 stars"? They've gotta be joking.

That my two precisely formulated questions to a 24-hour customer service centre, which only require two simple yes/no answers, have now been unanswered for four days. Either I've overwhelmed them or given them some ideas. 🙄

Warehouse Mobile "improving" their account login process so that the only way to get it is to have a code SMS'd to your phone.  Because the only thing anyone would ever use a SIM in is a mobile phone.

Also in September, we are enhancing the security of our online login page. [...] Awesome!

Awesomely stupid.

Isn't Warehouse the one that has a data-only plan offering?!
