Unless you're scrapping a mainframe, it usually doesn't make financial sense.

There are two standard methods for extracting gold from electronic scraps
  1. burning off the gold using high temperatures, which is energy intensive, expensive, and releases toxic gases.

  2. leaching chemicals like a cyanide solution, which is also expensive and toxic, plus the remaining waste cannot be recycled.

Not very friendly to the environment.

IIRC there used to be a recycling outfit in Whanganui, it closed because there was simply not enough material coming through to make it viable financially (these places need 24/7 run time).
This is where a "recycle tax" on ALL products is needed, we pay up front for the costs and the stores where you bought stuff from must take it back to be recycled.

We could dramatically cut down on "waste" this way

I watch golf on Sky. Must be the third time in recent weeks that the end of day 4 ended 2 or 3 holes before the end. Once, fine, that's life, but three times now

No, something is down. From the metservice site:

Planned outage: Our Canterbury radar will be offline Mon 23 Sept and Tue 24 Sept from 7:30am-5pm for planned work. Nearby radars will provide partial coverage, but detection will be significantly reduced for Canterbury.

Thanks for that. Certainly is reduced by the rain we have had.

Revolving doors. Same etiquette as lifts - don't try to barge in before I get and definitely don't stand in my way as I try to exit 😡

Flu.

I have it.

It's like COVID, except nobody cares that you have it and assume you have a cold and are being soft.

I've been sick since Saturday and have only just returned to WFH this morning - I'd say I have another hour left in me at best today.

I'm sure people see you going around with flu and think "covid", don't they?

That would assume that I'm out and about.
The only people that know I have flu are ones I have told - and that's where I get the "cold" comments - i.e. colleagues.

When I had to get some covid tests thru ubereats from the pharmacy, they were fancy ones that had 3 tests on them and would show flu as well. Of cource all was negative when I was sick because I am sure those tests are a whole lot of "get back to work" encouragement and not accurate.

People who favour "politeness" over "road rules.

I pulled up to a pedestrian crossing and waited for a gentleman who was waiting at the crossing.  Instead of crossing though, he just smiled and waved for me to drive on.  Annoyed, I did and in my rear-view mirror I watched as he strolled across.

I get that he thinks he's being kind or polite, but there is a reason we have road rules.  It's to avoid confusion and miscommunication and ensure predictability and consistency.  Particularly when it involves 2 tonnes of moving metal, confusion about intentions at an intersection can have fatal consequences.

I had already stopped.  The traffic up ahead wasn't going anywhere so I wasn't being delayed by stopping at the pedestrian crossing like the law requires me to.  And this gentleman wasn't walking slow or anything which might have caused him to hold me up longer than expected.  There was no reason to throw out the rule book, except he clearly thought he was "doing me a favour." How about just following the rules like we are all supposed to do?

Going to my partners house (who lives with others) and getting wet socks when I walk into the bathroom.
