JaffaCakes: We're currently watching "Only Lovers Left Alive", just halfway through. Very good so far, well impressed!

Love that film!

Just watched the 2nd Avengers movie (Age of Ultron).
It was a bit slapstick, and some of the script was hit/miss but overall an entertaining movie!

Me too now! Wow that was good. Favourite quotes: "Well that was ... visual" and "That's so fifteenth century". Quite humourously dark. wink

Event Horizon. Enjoyed it, but I'm still waiting for the ending 6.5/10

k Into the Darkness. Didn't expect to enjoy this as I'm trekkie, and it's not the same, but I did. Aside from the fantastical stunts which annoy me, it was pretty enjoyable. 8/10

Just watched Sin City II (A Dame to Die For)

Thoroughly enjoyable "Film Noir", graphically violent, sexually charged and altogether a bit unhinged. Just like the first one.

7/10...would've been higher, but the whole ghost thing was just annoying.

Expendables 3 - 4/10

Watched this last night on Blu Ray.  I really enjoyed the first one, and even the second one to some extent (though I don't remember anything about it).  Compared with the first two, this was a disappointment.  I always figured that the whole "idea" of the Expendables film was that it brought back to life those 80s action stars and put them in a team-up movie Avengers-style, and created the opportunities for some awesome face-offs.  It was a great idea that worked in the first two films.  The third film brought in other "action" stars that on paper sound great - Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Antonio Banderas, Kelsey Grammer (was he ever an "action star") and Wesley Snipes.  However, the movie creaks under the weight of its cast, and like most large ensemble films it struggles to give any of them enough screen time, to the point where the whole movie seems to just be a endless series of cameos.

To make matters worse, the plot seems to revolve around Barney (Stallone) retiring his old team in favour of a bunch of new, young Expendables.  The means sidelining all the action stars I'd turned up to see.  We do get to see them back in action at the end, but it felt less like Expendables, and more like a pretty run-of-the-mill action film.  And even with the massive cast all joining in for the final rumble, there's nothing really to get excited about.

It's a shame it got to this point, as the first two were good fun.  This didn't feel like much fun, and for a completist like me it was more of a chore.

Black Hat BD

This didn't get a cinema release anywhere ?

Not Michael Mann's best work but watchable.

Computer folks may laugh.

7/10

Watched Oblivion on Saturday, really enjoyed it.  Great cinematography and large-scale special effects, quite good action sequences and an intriguing story.  A few plot holes but you get that in most films

I did too. But I must admit I found it a bit disconcerting to see Bletchley Park being run by the Hand of the King smile

"Into The Woods". Quite an interesting (musical) film, linking together many children's stories. At just over two hours, I feel it is a little on the long side, and while the songs do a good job of holding everything together, they aren't the most interesting musically. Quite arbitrary, but I'll give it 6/10 on the basis that it's well done, but isn't likely to get a repeat viewing.

Watched 2 Kevin Hart movies in the last week The Wedding Ringer which is about a guy who is set to be married with a large wedding party...however he has no friends to be groomsmen and best man so he hires Kevin Hart to provide these as a service.  We had a good few laughs with this movie and it was a bit of light hearted fun 7 outta 10 now the other movie Get Hard co-stars Will Ferrell and is pretty much typical low end WF comedy film about WFs character getting himself ready with the help of Kevin Harts character for prison can't say this one was very good and if you're a big fan of WF it would be best to avoid it.  4 outta 10.

The Great Gatsby (2013)

Pathetic. Even Leonardo did not save it.
Our bad - should've look up our favorite movie reviewer - they gave very poor rating for that one.

Seven Psychopaths

Black comedy. Parody for cliché used in Holywood. Waste of time.
