networkn: You'd be surprised how few people can copy and paste.

Sad but true.  The number of times I've had to watch someone mouse their way through the entire process via menu selections rather than using a few keystrokes...

Ditto on the Windows login screen...

Type in username...
Lift right hand, scrabble for mouse, try and locate cursor.
Align cursor to password enter field.

Look down at keyboard, hunt n peck your password.

Look up at screen.
Realise that you misjudged the correct location of the password field.

Repeat previous 2 steps.

Scrabble for mouse. Again.

Try and locate cursor again. Mutter....

Aim for and click the arrow enter button.

Ahh.

Aim for and click the enter arrow button.

Bingo

Caps lock on

Enter first letter

Caps lock off

Enter rest of password.

The best one I heard regarding copy-paste was someone worried that what they had copied into their mouse might get lost if its batteries get changed.

My inability to find a discussion on Geekzone about web hosting providers. I’ve suffered through Crazy Domains management after they bought the company that bought the local company I signed up with. They recently replace the webmail tool with another one and overwrote some files used for my website. After looking at that I’m now getting cPanel login notifications that I think are coming from Gmail’s account import connecting and from iOS mail checking the mailbox.

(My inability to find the Geekzone discussion is the small thing.)

-ing ARC.  I wanted to listen to a CD and everything was working perfectly, input/output OK, the correct lights on the AV receiver lit up, just no trace of sound anywhere.  I finally remembered ARC / CEC and disconnected the (switched-off) TV, and sound worked as it should.

Edited to add: The TV is actually fed through a 2 -> 1 switch, one input of which is disconnected, so all I need to do is tap the button to switch to the non-connected input and CEC is disabled.  You can also get HDMI CEC blockers from a range of vendors for this, but at the time the switch was cheaper and easier to get.

Websites with a less than properly functional search.

Induction 90cm shouldn't give you 60, 70 and 80cm induction devices.

Induction Gas shouldn't give you either but not both results

All of these websites I guarantee cost $20-50K+

Sigh.

The peculiar obsession with $100,000 salaries is press articles. Especially in relation to government employees.

I don’t personally regard $100,000 a year as a great deal of money. It’s reasonable pay but it certainly isn’t in any way “rich”.

Since we arrived here about 20 years ago, the press have obsessed over this mythical salary and still regularly refer to the number of people in a particular department who earn that as if it makes you as rich as Croesus.

There’s never any accounting for inflation. $100,000 in 2005 equates to about $170,000 today adjusted for inflation, yet they’re still fixated on $100,000.

We have a real problem with cutting down wealthy people here.

Some of the obsession with the 100K number, is that the average salary in NZ is 53K.

For most people, doubling their salary would put them in a hugely advantageous position/be life changing.

Considering the minimum wage ($23.15/hr x40 hours x 52 weeks) is now $48k, the supposed "you're rich" salary of $100k is only a little over twice the minimum wage now.  I suspect when the minimum wage exceeds $100k at some future point in time, they'll still be harping on about it despite being unable to live on it at that time.  It's the usual selective reporting that misses the buying power side of things.  It was only 15-20 years ago that you could buy a decent house for $200-300k. where a $100k salary could fairly easily achieve things like deposits and repayments.  Now with houses up around the $1mil mark and salaries having not moved nearly as much, that buying power is 3/10ths of stuff all.

Dear Sir

Get a better spam filter. Ours seems to keep those out. Spammers don’t do themselves any favours with the usual rhetoric they seem to always include.

If I haven't already mentioned it, I've previously received spam from Shein & Temu, despite the fact that I've never shopped with them or visited their sites. It's quite likely caused by data harvesting.

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Its caused by people you know sharing your details to get more water for their plants or some other crap in the game in the app. Cant find who did it which is really annoying.

When you spent ages looking online for the answer to your question,

(In this case the ack cancel button to cancel my alarm dialer not needed for decades)

Start writing a post for help, only to finally finding the answer while looking for the correct model number to put in the post!

Aargh!!!!!!!!!!!

Typical that you find the answer when not actually looking for the actual answer!

Those tiny black ants. Tried shaking cinnamon over all the benches and leaving it there. Voila it worked, no ants for as long as it was there. Came back from three weeks holiday, benches still covered in cinnamon and for a week after that, no ants…so finally wiped the benches clean and proudly declared the system worked. Last night, ANTS! Back to cinnamon benches.

No food ever left out so I can’t understand what they come in for and from where.
