Both mpeg and mp3 fall short when there is any processing done downstream of them, which is why prologic off a 2 channel compressed track has always been problematic with artifacts being readily transfered to the rear channels.

Put any motion plus etc behind low bitrate mpeg and it really starts to look aweful bringing all those compression artifacts out in a massive way.

Look into the detail in shadows on a recompressed bluray compared to the source one and the blockyness is very apparant.

The argument is moot, with local to NZ content you can stream blueray as it stands without any more compression under the UFB which is the point I was trying to make before i accidentally derailed the thread

Most problems are the result of previous solutions...

Just mentioning anything like that is guaranteed to derail the thread with how long it's going to take for UFB to be rolled out.

Good to see Winston back and challenging the gov on this. Not that I agree with his politics,although the gold card was a good idea.

No I wouldn't. I ocasionally pay about $3 to TelstraClear if I've gone over my quota. If only HybridTV would get CASPA sorted.

I just can't stand video stores, they never ever seem to have anything I want to watch (or which everyone else in the group has not already seen). Of course I could book a movie ahead of time, after ringing round all my friends and gaining a concensus....

As some have already said, it's not the money, it's the convenience.

The beat up on this dude is incredible.. He's been pretty philanthropic while he's been in NZ & his treatment @ the hands of the nz justice system shows the corporatisation of our police force. Look at the different treatment to say Hotchim ( and others) who destroyed real kiwis lives to the tune of hundreds of millions, to kim dotcom, who has destroyed how many lives again?

Runaway million got chased & extradited over Westpac's mistake.. As a criminologist pointed out, his part was neither theft, nor fraud.

It reminds me of another US-global law (which I support). US citizens being pedophiles overseas (eg Cambodia, Thailand) can be arrested overseas or extradited to serve time in the US. Even after they have been convicted and served time (albeit not much time) in that other country.

If money is deposited into your bank account by error or incorrectly given to you at an ATM you are not entitled to keep that money. You commit a crime if you do so.

It was at least fraud. There was no money deposited in his account - it was an overdraft. He then proceeded to get money on that overdraft with the intention of not returning it. He knew too well it was a mistake and a honest person would just have pointed it out to the bank.

The whole thing is disgusting.

1. The guy's done nothing wrong in NZ.
2. Way over-the-top response by police - part of trying to make him look guilty.
3. Our newsmedia (friends of MPAA/RIAA/etc) are trying to make this guy look a baddie. "Rich prick", previous convictions, neighbour "intimidated by email" (did you actually read it?) I'm watching TV3 misquote it right now.
4. Our country is doing the bidding of the corporations of the USA
5. Being denied bail. Flight risk? How's HE going to get out! Here's a few people who should have been denied bail: Akshay Chand - let out on bail after kidnapping a girl, then when out murders her, great going bail judge you have her blood on your hands. The killer of Phillip Cottrell - beat an innocent stranger to death in NZ, get bail back at mum's. Not some guy who ran a successful business!
6. Megaupload was in talks with artists to allow direct download and payment for their songs - uhoh, that's depriving the RIAA of their god-given right to endless income - not good. They'll make him pay...
7. The RIAA can't buy politicians in NZ, so let's get some pressure on NZ from Obama. Pass that S92a under urgency, Christchurch earthquake - perfect excuse. "We might think about possibility of maybe talking about a possible free trade agreement. Now DO WHAT WE SAY! Labour and National both nod heads."

Final words:
Go away corporate America. Stay out of our laws. Stay out of our country. I hope to live to see the demise of the US recording conglomerates - but unfortunately, they write the laws in North America, Europe, UK, Australia and NZ. It's not how it should be.
