Better off Dead, the latest Jack Reacher book.

Ok, but probably not one of the best?

I actually felt it was the best for a while.

Decided to try Orphan X and was pleased to find Kindle Unlimited had the first book included which was gifted to me yesterday by Amazon!

Just be careful - I see you got a "gift" but read the fine print to see if it won't start charging you automatically at the end of term. I got an email from Amazon giving me Kindle Unlimited for three months when I registered a new Kindle today - but the fine print was clear this would automatically turn into a subscription at the end of this period.

Alamein to Zem Zem by Keith Douglas.

Wartime tank memoir of soldier who fought in North Africa. Engaging read tempered by knowledge he died 3 days into Normandy. Cheap read on kindle.

We had that happen with Sky Rialto channel.  Of course we forgot to cancel at the end of the free trial period, and didn't notice we were paying more for several months.  My wife would record some of the old movies to try and justify it, but we'd inevitably get 15 minutes into them and decide they were unwatchable.

I have a note for the date it ends. It was basically a credit against services purchased.

Bad Blood by John Carreyrou

Non fiction crime, about the Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes who was seen as the female Steve Jobs and who patented a blood testing machine that would make blood testing faster. However, the technology didn’t work. Backed by big name investors and politicians (warning never be a sucker for a pretty face) the company was worth about $9 billion before its collapse.
The fraud trial is on now and you can follow it in NY Times or WSJ.

Fascinating story, very well written also available in the Libby App for free and as an audio book.
It has been given excellent reviews and it certainly kept me riveted enough to finish in less than two days.

Bought it as a Christmas gift for a few friends, one of whom really needed to learn about the pitfalls of doing business with smart good looking women :)

Not reading but listening (I've got shite eyesight atm due to a medical condition) to the Alex Cross series at the moment, and recently finished Project Hail Mary. PHM was a good listen, some good humor in there along with the tech stuff :)

I'm going to start on the Wheel of Time series as well, watched first few episodes of the TV series and enjoying it, so figured the book will probably fill in some bits/detail.

The first 6 books were among my absolute favourites when I was a surly teen. I feel Robert Jordan lost his way a bit from there on with too many sub-plots and an ever-widening cast of characters.

Brandon Sanderson's last 3 books were very tightly paced and plotted and it was an okay resolution, especially all things considered, but the second half of the series isn't as good as the first. He's also freely admitted he found one character in particular super hard to write.

If you do audio books, Michael Kramer is one of my absolute favourite narrators even if he does sometimes sound a touch... villainous. Somehow my mental picture of him is Willem Dafoe as the green goblin reading a book.

I couldn't help but look him up after reading your comment, and his image fits perfectly with how you hear him.

He must have started his narration at an early age as Wikipedia lists about 100 titles, and some of those are series (like Tom Clancy's Op Centre).

im about to restart the wheel of time series, had two goes over the years, first time got to book 9 and then the second attempt book 11. Was a good series but as others have said it gets a bit heavy going, this attempt will be a much more casual effort, rather than devouring at once will take it slower over the year or so.

I'm about 20% into Silverview by John le Carré which I started listening to last night.  This is the first audiobook by John le Carré that I've listened to that was not narrated by the author which took me a wee while to get used to, but in this case the narrator Toby Jones adds value with his various accents to suit the characters.  I don't remember le Carré doing accents.  Getting to my point, it is so nice to enjoy a book of this quality, and it really is a step or two above anything else I have listened to in a while.  There are some complaints on Goodreads about the plot complexity, but that's the whole point of a le Carré novel, and I suspect also a reflection on real life when it comes to spies and political intrigue.

I'm still making my way through Orphan X Book 1. I am really enjoying it, including all the twists and turns! If the other books in the series are as good, I can't wait to have more time to read them!
