Frustrating, isn't it? A couple of weeks ago I had some at random, but they've thankfully gone again.

Often you'll have them nesting in the wall cavity and mostly going outside for food. Any gaps in the trim around windows or pipes or PowerPoint's let's them send scouts on patrol. You can try to seal all the gaps or deliberately feed them poison to reduce the number but it's impossible to get rid of them completely. If you did some more would just move in.

Bung: PowerPoint

I knew this was a plague in business settings but I didn't realise the harm it caused in the home.

The way that my tablet edits my posting is something that annoys me.

Caps lock on

Enter first letter

Caps lock off

Enter rest of password.

The best one I heard regarding copy-paste was someone worried that what they had copied into their mouse might get lost if its batteries get changed.

I actually have Caps Lock disabled on my keyboards. It’s the most pointless button ever.

If you copy a file to a OneDrive folder and it syncs just as you're in the middle of typing a rename you'll find it has selected all the text you've just entered so that as you keep typing it overwrites everything with the other half of what you're trying to type.

The timing of this can be variable and random so you copy a file, wait, then rename but sometimes it still catches you out as if it's watching you type and does that just to spite you.  Or you are in a hurry so you try to quickly rename it only to get to the last few characters to find you're too slow.

msukiwi:

When you spent ages looking online for the answer to your question,

(In this case the ack cancel button to cancel my alarm dialer not needed for decades)

Start writing a post for help, only to finally finding the answer while looking for the correct model number to put in the post!

Aargh!!!!!!!!!!!

Typical that you find the answer when not actually looking for the actual answer!

On a related note, opening a new browser tab to search something, getting distracted by something else, then forgetting what you were going to search for.

"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

Eva888: Those tiny black ants. Tried shaking cinnamon over all the benches and leaving it there. Voila it worked, no ants for as long as it was there. Came back from three weeks holiday, benches still covered in cinnamon and for a week after that, no ants…so finally wiped the benches clean and proudly declared the system worked. Last night, ANTS! Back to cinnamon benches.

Use ant sand or, if you're feeling brave, Chinese ant chalk, although you may want to avoid it if you have inquisitive cats.

You mean the keyboard macro hotkey?  Not sure why they label it Caps Lock instead of, say, Macro Command, but I find it quite useful.

I’m helluva brave but where to find it?

Interesting story on it made me want to put on a hat and a raincoat with the collar up and sidle into Asian stores.

We have found  No Pests ant bait to be the most effective at getting rid of ants. It doesn't stop them coming back at a later date but it works damn well.

It's all over Aliexpress and similar places, also sold as insecticide chalk and similar.  Active ingredients will he high concentrations of synthetic pyrethroids, so same as you get in ant sand and insect sprays, just a lot more of them.  This is why you don't want to expose cats to it.

My cinnamon ridden benchtops, one ant seen early last night which promptly got squashed after which I thought, now all his mates will come searching for him. One hour later another ant arrives. Instead of killing it, I sprinkled him with cinnamon. Go tell that to your nest of mates.

Off to Bunnings to find the ant bait. Am certain the cinnamon is a deterrent though but who wants brown powdered benches.

You have my sympathies. I made a cake yesterday, took it out with me, got home 12 hours later... and found I'd left the knife out. The one I'd used to ice the cake.

At least if they find something you may get a definite trail leading back to where they are getting in rather than just random ants everywhere.
