The firing the client gambit.

Possible, though why he came back twice to make sure he had his measurements correct seems strange.

You might want to wait before applying latest Raspberry Pi OS!

I don't think it was fully tested. Some have reported bricked device after applying update.

Few issues I've had. Crashed and locked after rebooting following updates. Can't select WiFi / Network plugin from menu. You have to set keyboard country as defaults to UK even though US shown selected.

Though does seem faster and looks great.

How about sloppy support of initially good software? A really useful, solid app appears and gains a loyal following and a reputation for quality. The value of the company goes up as people hear about the app and buy it. The original developer decides to cream it while she can and sells the company, heading off to a sunny retirement. The new owner rides the coattails of the app’s reputation, gradually driving it into the ground with a series of buggy updates. Eventually the app is screwed and so are those who paid for it.

I've always maintained you are better off with less than stellar software with excellent support, then a great product with terrible support.

Isn't that a classic case of what Cory Doctorow calls "enshittification"? Mind you, Jeff Bezos has controlled Amazon from the start & Elon Musk the same with Tesla, and they've still enshittified.

"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

As a long time customer of Amazon and their Eco systems I've been fairly constantly impressed by their sales and post sales support. It seems to heading in the wrong direction since Bezos stepped down as CEO.

I am not as big a fan of their support since then.

The fact that pet insurance offered by the same company as our medical insurance does not operate in the same way:

Medical event - get pre-approval via their app, send all invoices directly to them for payment. Walk away.

Pet/vet event - pay up front, get receipts, send to insurer via a less convenient method than the app for the medical side, then wait, fingers crossed, thousands of dollars out of pocket for them to process the claim...not knowing how quickly they'll pay out or whether everything will be covered.
No ability to get pre-approval and agreed coverage.

And whilst it's pay day - we're about to be completely wiped out until after 6pm, when I get paid and we can get back to a positive balance for a short while.

Paddy Gower.

It's like TV3/Stuff are manufacturing a popular "celebrity" by just telling us so. IMHO he's not particularly clever, insightful or special. A poor man's John Campbell.

John Campbell - Shudder.

Feels a bit harsh to compare him to John :)

I don't agree with everything he says or does by any stretch, but he is someone who got pretty low and made a difficult decision to not only challenge his shortcomings, but to share that journey with others, and that is worthwhile. Something about his delivery slightly rubs me the wrong way.

He's written what he hopes to be a comedy opinion piece in Stuff re Wellington Phoenix vs Auckland FC.
He's obviously a Nix fan and makes no apologies for it, but it's so poorly put together that it feels like a poorly educated and angry person having a rant, rather than the satire it's (probably) meant to be.

This is irresponsible to the extreme. I have supported his various efforts into mental health, but with this, he is dead to me.

Isn't that his entire persona though?  Unsure of his education level but he's always come across as just being unnecessarily angry and sweary about everything.

I don't have a problem with Paddy Gower. I also don't have a problem with John Campbell. I prefer the latter over the former but both are okay with me. I think Gower's alcohol revelations took a lot of courage and introspection and I respect him for that. I didn't much care for his short-live issues series but there is such a dearth of current events reporting here that it was better than nothing.

I have to agree with this. Irresponsible and stupid. I think I see the point he was trying to make but it doesn't stand up to any kind of critical inspection. Alcohol may make a desperate person feel less awful for a short time, or pass them out, but that kind of consumption only leads to further disintegration. It is not any kind of solution, even short-term. It is about the same as knocking someone out by hitting them on the head.

On another subject, I am really annoyed by companies that still insist on using those stupid captcha challenges. They seem stuck on motorcycles at the moment. After three pages I said stuff it and the company lost my business.
