Geektastic: I’m posting this one on behalf of my wife.

The strange refusal of NZ companies to state salaries in job adverts. She wastes so much time phoning companies and agencies to screen the jobs in order to determine whether it’s worth investing the time and effort to apply.

Salaries seem to be classified on the level of state secrets for some unknown reason.  Despite the fact that they are essentially the only reason to work.

Could it be part of the social taboo about talking about how much you earn and/or comparing income with cow-orkers?

Behodar: There's a link inside the email. I'm not aware of any other way to do it if you've already deleted it.

There's also an "Unwatch Topic" button at the top of every single page in the thread.

Maybe it needs a <blink> tag around it.

Strange. I only have a "Watch Topic" here, no "Unwatch Topic". Curiouser and curiouser.

Now, why on earth would you advertise a salary when some mug may offer to work for less money. Tongue in cheek comment.

That means you're not watching the topic.  It's a toggle setting, try clicking it and it'll turn into "Unwatch Topic".

Nope. It just goes to a page with "You'll be notified by e-mail when a new reply is posted on this topic."

Christmas 'stuff' when it's only 8 November.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

@Gurezaemon:

So how does one go about muting or ignoring a thread that you've participated in anyway? I've spent ages trying to figure this out, with no success.

And here I'm thinking I made easy for people...

It's a toggle.

Locking an empty vault

I watch almost nothing on NZ TV. I used to mainly watch the news but that has been so eviscerated that I have given up on it. Also, sports is not news.

I like the Repair Shop but that is about all and I can get it on-line if I want to. Actually, I can get nearly everything on-line, bigger and better than pitiful old NZ TV.

A notable exception is Under The Vines. This excellent series is pretty much only available on TV One, at least at this time. ABC has also had older episodes, but only briefly.

My stepdaughter, who is a big fan of the series, lives in Australia but she was due for a visit. I thought I would surprise her with the latest episodes, which haven’t appeared there yet. Why not? It is On Demand and I live in New Zealand so can stream it legally.

Except I can’t. I tried different browsers and different OS’s on different machines but I kept hitting stupid Widevine blocks. I tried many different things. I was finally able to get the stream on an old Win 7 machine in another room and I screen copied it. But no way could I get it to work on the other computers.

The thing that strikes me is I don’t have this issue anywhere else. Streaming Australian content is a breeze. Just click and go. Also other regions. Only  New Zealand seems to have this anal retentive system that makes it nearly impossible even for legitimate viewers to access content. What are they protecting so ferociously? Another Survivor series? More cooking competitions? With the sole exception of Under The Vines, there is nothing on One Plus that I want to watch that I can’t get somewhere else with a lot less trouble. I know because I have looked. What a pathetic television service we have. No wonder no-one watches it.

The weird things my iPhone substitutes for actual words when I swipe type.

Should is often rendered as “Soto’s”! Who is Soto?! I’ve never deliberately used that word so where did it come from?

Also ‘and’ is often rendered as ‘AB’s’ which is another thing I’ve never deliberately typed.

Where are these strange substitutions coming from?!

Soto is an Indonesian soup.
