This video from Matthias, exposing the use of CCS in test leads:

I make a point of getting test leads from name-brand vendors with decent-quality products, but still got hit with one of the sets of leads being CCS.  None of the others were so I assume it was a supply-chain slip-up, but it's still annoying.

Fired up the BBQ for the first time of the season last night, with some nice beef sausages, chicken thighs and scotch fillet to run through it. Put the snags on, closed the hood and stepped away for what seemed like a few minutes... came back to a raging fat fire and snags turned into briquettes. Grrr!

Geektastic: The weird things my iPhone substitutes for actual words when I swipe type.

Should is often rendered as “Soto’s”! Who is Soto?! I’ve never deliberately used that word so where did it come from?

Also ‘and’ is often rendered as ‘AB’s’ which is another thing I’ve never deliberately typed.

Where are these strange substitutions coming from?!

Mine does the same. It substitutes wrongly spelt or nonsense words that don’t have a meaning. I’ve tried restarting and all the other known fixes. Am really unhappy with typing on it. Admittedly it’s a lot worse while plugged in charging while using. I can feel some heat in that area and that’s when it’s at its utter worst. I don’t swipe type, just tap type.

Yeah, he went through all that maths when a magnet would have produced the same result.  Having said that, that's with 20/20 hindsight so he wouldn't have known beforehand what the issue was.

Whichever cretin at Google decided that swiping anywhere near either side of the screen on a phone immediately exits the app you're in, losing all of your work.  There's already a perfectly usable gesture at the bottom of the screen for this, and then some idiot decides that lose-all-your-work is way too hard and they should make it so a swipe anywhere on about 75% of the screen edge will do it for you.

And the only way to disable it is by going in via ADB and changing some kernel tuning parameter or something.

What struck me was that he had all those tools at hand. What kind of person feels a need for that? If I had an overheating connector, I would assume that it was doing a job I wanted done and I would just add a second cable to share the load.

Pretty much anyone who works with electronics stuff actually, it's pretty normal (note the magnitude of the linked thread, and the read count).

Translated: Everyday ordinary bits of cow.  I realise that if the norm is grain-fed-and-pumped-full-of-drugs meat like the US then you'd want to emphasise this, but we don't have that (AFAIK).

Grain fed cattle is common in Australia. Woolworth's could be dumping that on us next.

When you email a company with a simple question (the answer to which should be on their website, but isn't), and after three business days you still haven't heard a peep out of them.

Or you get an automated response telling you to expect a reply in 10 business days. Not sure which is worse - the one with little hope or the one with no hope?

Our local council is like that. It soon becomes obvious that the mailbox in question is only checked weekly.

Probably staffed by elders who take people off answering emails and customer service tickets inorder to answer a ringing phone because they misprioritize things based on their long time experience from a distant past where phone calls were important.
