eracode:eracode:I’m watching ’Shtisel’ on Netflix - a soapy about Orthodox Jews living in Jerusalem. It’s light, low-key, insightful and quietly funny. Really different, brilliantly done and very enjoyable. In Hebrew with subtitles.
I have no Jewish connections (apart from having volunteered on a kibbutz in Northern Galilee, Israel, for six months in 1976 with my girlfriend - now Mrs Code - as part of our OE) but I’m hooked on the show and have been bingeing it.
Not sure that my recommendation aroused much interest last time round in July 2020 but I was pleased to notice that Season 3 has just started on Netflix. Just watched the first episode and it’s still expectedly strange (to most of us) but charming and good-natured and I’m still hooked.
Season 11 of Shameless has been fantastic so far. It felt like it was petering out at the end of S10, but they seem to have found some interesting new storylines. They have also added some interesting characters are developing some new depth in the existing characters. I am going to really miss it when it finishes!
I've been watching His Dark Materials. Ploughed through first season in a couple of days, but second season has been a bit of a slog.

Agree, S02 was a touch slow but I'm hooked still.
I watched Season 1 of The Falcon & The Winter Soldier on Disney +
I really enjoyed it, but it definitely felt like a long movie, rather than a series and the "conclusion" with the Super Soldier seemed weak.
Great cameo by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, though...very dry.

I watched episode 1 of Vegas (NZ gangland drama) on TV2.
Reasonably gripping, nice cinematography, good flowing action.
Storyline is somewhat cliché and some of the acting leaves a bit to be desired.
Good enough for me to give episode 2 a go.
Edit imdb link and disambiguation added as per freitasm's request
Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

Link to IMDB please? There are quite a few shows called "Vegas".
[Edit] I see it's a new NZ production.

Not just slow, there are no real stakes and the two main characters are just bumbling around (so far any way, I've only watched the first 5 eps). With season 1 there was a goal they were working towards, and a real sense of urgency that is missing from this season. And worst of all, there's a severe lack of armoured polar bears!
I also think the boy (Tom?) is a terrible actor, and pretty bland character. It says something when I can't even remember his name.
I'm hoping for a better final season.
EDIT: Googled it, the boys name is Will.

I finished the final episode at 2am this morning, binged the last 3 episodes, because it was both so good, and because I didn't want to lose the 'feel' and build up of what they were doing. Ultimately, fairly predicable ending in most ways. Sad there isn't any more, I enjoyed the series a lot overall.
I do wonder if they might do an offshoot of it, there is a lot of potential, though once you have watched 11 seasons of pretty self destructive behaviour, they would need to change it up a bit.

I must get back into it, I havent watched it for years.
The US series was just as good as the original GB series when watched last time.

I think the last season was one of it's best, like a lot of series that run many seasons, sometimes you get a bit of aimless wandering in storylines etc, but I have to say, it finished reasonably strongly.
Have started watching The Morning Show on Apple TV+. So far it's pretty well made. I find the stuff with Steve Carrell the most interesting, fired from his high profile anchor job after some #MeToo allegations. The show portrays him as someone who isn't denying anything he did, but legitimately doesn't believe he did anything wrong - I'm not far enough into the show yet to decide what I think of his character. But the show is less about him, and more about the wake his firing left behind at his workplace (the titular Morning Show). I'm not a Jennifer Aniston fan at all, but she's playing her part reasonably well, as are most of the other actors. 8/10.
Also watching Shadow and Bone on Netflix. Fairly stylish production. I don't know anything about the source material, but I assume is based on "young "adult" novels - so I was surprised at it's R16 rating and reasonably graphic violence. Perfectly watchable as long as you don't think too hard, but ultimately pretty forgettable. 5.5/10.
The Mosquito Coast on ATV+. First two episodes came out together on Friday, weekly from now on. Started a bit slowly but has ramped-up by the end of E2. Looking very good.
I enjoyed the novel by Paul Theroux years ago so I was looking forward to this.
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
Line of Duty - UK police drama show.
series 1-5 on Netflix. 5-6 episodes per season
series 6 currently airing tv1 and on TVNZOD
series 6 is currently airing here a week or so behind the UK and most watched drama in the UK since 2008.
Each season seems to be relatively independent with enough small threads weaving throughout to reward long term viewers. Simultaneously watching series 6 as it airs here while watching the older series. Finished series 1 tonight and started on series 2 and it’s all seriously gripping tv. Edge of your seat sort of stuff.
