Yeah, but it precisely describes the item in question. Like the German Rindfleischetikettierungsueberwachungsaufgabenuebertragungsgesetz, a law passed to deal with BSE issues whose name precisely describes what's being regulated by it.

Why didn't they just call it the "Beef labeling monitoring task transfer law"?  😏

Because then they'd have to pay the lawyers for six words instead of one.

The Makita 210 mm circular saw I bought from Placemakers in 1983 has finally died. I’m not a chippie but that saw has done a massive amount of heavy DIY work over nearly forty years - many decks, house extensions and renovations, retaining walls etc. I even had an abrasive disc in it at times and used it to cut concrete. It never missed a beat and never needed any attention apart from new brushes (and blades). Those things just go and go and go - I won’t be going back to Placemakers with CGA claim based on product life expectancy.

I had to replace it over the weekend. Found it interesting that the model number of the old one was 5008. The model number of the new one is also 5008. Why change a good thing?

Buying something from the States that doesn't appear to be mass-produced (a "Steeltooth" comb; I got sick of the prongs breaking on plastic ones), and getting a handwritten card with the order where the seller was clearly excited to have sold one to somewhere 'exotic' like NZ 😀

Question:
Can you use these in a house? Can you use them on a boat?

Yes you can use them in a house, you can use them with your spouse, you can use them on a boat, you can use them while you float.

You can use them in a house, you can use them with a mouse. You can use them with a boat, you can use them with a goat.

Yes you can use them in a house you can use them on your couch. You can use them on a boat you can use them in a moat.

Yes you can wear them in the house and on a boat. How ever I would not wear them eating green eggs and ham with a goat.

I am getting a lot of scam calls at the moment. Either my Internet is about to be disconnected or unusual charges have been made on my credit card. My favourite is the credit card one. I can press 1 to reject the charges, or 2 to accept them. Both buttons come out in the same place, of course, and I always press 2.  The person on the other end doesn't know that because it is a dummy button and there is nothing to indicate which one was selected. The scammers just assume that everyone will press 1. But I press 2 and when the scammer starts the pitch, I keep interrupting to say I pressed 2 and I did make the purchase and I accept the charges. This always totally confuses them because there is nothing in the script for that. These days they are quicker to drop calls that don't go the way they want, but I am usually able to waste 5 or 10 minutes of their time going around in circles before they give up.  That is 5 or 10 minutes they can't scam someone else and that really makes me smile.

Next time press 3. Or say "yes". My guess is that there's no tone decoder or anything at their end... just a sound detector.

I'm impressed by 5-10 minutes though. Good work!

Alex Hales misfortune last night. I'm glad it wasn't me but it never fails to be amusing providing the poor victim is ok.

I put on an old and frail voice and act really dumb. It makes them think they have an easy mark and encourages them to try harder.
