kingdragonfly: It looks nice, but it was the last place I’d ever live! I'm sure I wouldn't a ghost have of a chance of a good night's sleep! I think it's a grave investment!

Looks like a lovely place, I'd be happy to live there, on the condition that the sellers throw in a hearse to drive around in.

Her X account with over 100,000 followers is packed full of conspiracy theories about astrology, wellness, anti-vax and alternative medicine, Covid-19, QAnon, and antisemitism with an alarming turn towards doomsday theories in the lead up to the solar eclipse.

via LA Times: The mother who stabbed her partner to death and pushed her kids out of a moving car on a busy L.A. Freeway before crashing her own car was an astrology influencer who was worried about the solar eclipse.

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. "Astrology influencer" ?? In the words of Manuel, ¿Qué?

What is she influencing? The stars? The planets? Was she worried about the eclipse because she suddenly found she had absolutely no influence over any celestial bodies?

Maybe the planet actually is better off without us. 🤦‍♂️

I once lived as a student on a floor above a funeral parlour. The tenants below were very quiet and I was able to concentrate perfectly on my studies. Nobody complained when I turned up "Highway to Hell" after closing time. 😈

I'd told people I'd love to have a house next to a graveyard.

I don't believe in ghosts or spirits, but some people do. So less competition from superstitious buyers.

And no worry about noisy neighbors with motorcycles or dogs.

I thought the same until I lived next door to one. Boy was I wrong.

- People leave a huge amount of rubbish at cemeteries. Not just the usual pie wrappers, coke / beer cans, chip packets etx that they can't be bothered putting in the bin by the gate on their way out, but all the other detritus people like to leave on head stones. Fake flowers, plastic toys, photographs etc. None of it stays put when the wind blows. Roughly an old shopping bag a fortnight I would pick up of rubbish that had blown into my property from next door.

- Dead people still attend parties it would seem - or at least the parties would come to them. In the evenings and late into the night. Asshats with boom boxes, and boxes of alcohol. See above for where the rubbish would end up.

- It turns out that the small carpark for the cemetery (which is essentially a largish lay by off the side of the road) is apparently a great place to do burn outs. Any time of day or night, but more often than not coinciding with said parties above. After drinking with theirs dead mates, they'd jump in their cars and make a huge racket, leaving bits of rubber all over the road and smoke that would waft through our property in big clouds.

Was definitely a What the Firetruck experience.

The problem is that ever since Mozilla doomed Firefox to being an also-ran browser, lots of sites just aren't built with it in mind any more because of its negligible market share. For example with Outlook 365 or whatever it's called now, as of a few weeks ago under Firefox downloading attachments doesn't work any more and the site will randomly sign you out requiring you to go through the tedious login process again to get back in. And that's alongside a bunch of lesser Firefox-only glitches that have been in there for ages. The same site with Chrome or Edge works just fine. "Works with Firefox" often means "Worked at one point with Firefox, we assume it's still mostly OK now but haven't bothered to check".

My union's member web page only works in Firefox, and will just refresh over and over again when clicking Login in any Chromium-based browser. Ironic, from the union representing computing professionals and engineers.

From this we can deduce that the page was probably written to comply with the various web standards then...

On mobile devices it only works on Samsung Internet (Android) and Safari (iPhone).

I would never hold Safari up as a paragon of internet standards. And since all browsers on iPhone are wrappers around WKWebView, I suspect User Agent sniffing tomfoolery (UA sniffing being used for anything in 2024 being the real What The Fork)

I like the uncensored version better. Everyone knows what the word is and immediately subvocalises it when confronted with the substitute, so why not just say it?
