freitasm: I think that word doesn't mean what you think it means.

Indeed. I meant „fear of humans“, but I agree, the translation was a little bit unlucky. 🤭
But that is the dictionary told me.😅 Big sorry! @geektastic

Buying a pack of 8 double length toilet rolls for a perceived bargain on 50 something cents per "normal length" 3 ply roll.

Oh what a bargain.....4 ply too.....oh how wrong!

Normal toilet tissue is 100mm wide.

This stuff is 121mm wide. Hence doesn't fit our roll holder properly or many others I should think.

Probably why they had pallets of it at the Supermarket.

We'll use it under protest.

It was a sh*tty bargain and this would be regarded as a sh*tty email.

Was also bought when I was not so well.....hospital stay / drip etc included....I would normally read the sizing etc.

The local champagne expert? He's around. He's like a bad smell. Try as we might, can't get rid of 'im. Even tried kicking him out of the country a few times. He keeps coming back. Tried everything. Even cheap bubbles don't scare him away (not that he can tell the difference anyway...)

Well, it is said (especially if one know the region well) that there are more bottles of Champagne in the world than the Champagne region can produce. If you don't want to pay for the „cheaper“ ‘Champagner’, some bottles of ‘Cremant’ are supposed to be of even better quality - they say, but nothing is known for sure and I haven't said anything. 😉

In all honesty, I wouldn't have a clue when it comes to bubbles. I wouldn't know champagne from a cheap sparkling white wine. Not my thing. I can't drink it. Can't eat coriander, either. Yup, I'm weird.

But yeah, @sbiddle is still around. Busy chap.

Anthropophobic is the word you were looking for, or maybe just introverted.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Project car being rear ended early November. Got the WOF two weeks early as I was travelling all of November for work.
Got rear ended the day after, insurance does it's thing which takes awhile, panel beater takes awhile. All of a sudden it's Christmas and nothing is done and I have a feeling it will be three months before I know it and half the WOF gone.

It's a minor repair but just the time of the year. And I can't drive it as the bumper is rubbing the tyre.

Actually to be honest my biggest fear was the other insurance company wanting to write it off as it's just an old Honda.

Through on-line forums I help people in Eastern Europe learn English. My goal is getting Eastern Europeans more at ease with Europe than Russia, and I think learning English may help.

Even though I talk to a lot of Eastern Europeans, mostly from Ukraine and Georgia, a few Russians actively seek out English speakers. I'd say they are almost desperate to talk to someone outside Russia.

Initially I ignored Russians; I suspect this is common.

After much thought, I carried out limited discussions with some, in the hope of bringing less distrust. I always act like both Russia and New Zealand are listening into the conversation, and stay away from encrypted communications.

Anyhow Russia actively blocks Youtube and Google. One Russian said she didn't want to use a VPN because it brought unwanted attention from the KGB. So I've tried a couple of searches with Russia's search engine Yandex.

She told me a Yandex link was blocked. Again this is a Russian server, to a Russian resource, and she is in Russia.

Apparently Yandex geo-blocks links for Russians, while leaving it more open for people outside Russia.

Pretty sneaky.

Unrelated I always make it clear to all I have lots of friends, including a wife. I believe conmen are really want victims who are lonely and isolated. Anyone who's satisfied with life is harder target. So far the strategy has worked.

She just said she wouldn't use a VPN because it was illegal. I filled in the blank and thought KGB. You're correct; it's the FSB / SVR.

Not related, I understand Russians can watch Youtube on their mobile devices directly, but they're somehow restricted for the browser version. I don't live there obviously, so I don't know the exact limits.

Not the name, but the structures and guidelines are just as active as they were during the Cold War - someone in the Kremlin has already made sure of that. For someone who only knows a hammer and has never been freely elected as a politician, every ‘problem’ looks like a nail.
