Anthropophobic is the word you were looking for, or maybe just introverted.

Thanks!

"Misanthropic", maybe? Or is that too strong a word?

"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

Illegal Polish firecrackers with the explosive power of a hand grenade ... some people just get tickets for a criminal offence - it's no longer funny, especially when they sober up in 12 hours.

Someone sharing photos with me via "Google Drive" which then forces me to create a "Google Account" in order to view them.

Yeah Nah. Too much trouble doing that sort of stuff. Unless they were photos I really wanted to see. I think Dropbox has wider market penetration, just use that instead.

Is that actually legit or just media scaremongering?  We used to blow up snow forts with Chinaboller D, and then there were the Deutsche Knaller which looked like crayons, you lit them by striking the crayon part on the side of a matchbox and then had a few seconds before they exploded.  They'd burn underwater so dropping them in non-iced-over ponds was popular.  The design meant the only possible way you could use them was to throw them, there was no option for "light blue touch paper and stand clear".  And the ones wrapped in waxed sisal that threw a spray of burning fragments in all directions when they detonated.  And the SC50s my uncle would pull out of some hidden stash... ah, decent fireworks...

That the BNZ app has de-registered itself yet again, requiring going through the sign-up process for a new device based on a set of low-security "authenticators" like being able to respond to an email.

If anyone who wants to attack BNZ users is reading this, all you need to do is wait for the app to s**t itself yet again and then get in before the legitimate users do.

“On New Year's Eve, five men die in Germany while handling pyrotechnics. There were also numerous life-threatening injuries. A ten-year-old boy was seriously injured after a firecracker exploded right in front of his face.“ …

Somehow it is fashionable at the moment to modify already illegal explosive charges. Last night a charge went off outside the door that was comparable to a live hand grenade thrown during training in my ex-military days ... but it went into the water of a canal. I'm not a scared lad, but this is no longer fun.

We're not talking about Chinese firecrackers here (we used to tinker with those too), but tangible offences against the Explosives Act, committed by complete idiots with no specialist knowledge, Candidates for the Darwin Award.

“A 45-year-old man died east of Leipzig after setting off a so-called large firework bomb (cal. 125mm) of category F4, according to the police. Such fireworks may only be purchased in Germany with official authorisation. The man suffered serious head injuries in the explosion and died in hospital. According to the police, a 50-year-old man was also fatally injured in Hartha near Chemnitz when he was handling fireworks.

Near Paderborn, a 24-year-old died while handling a firework. The accident occurred before the turn of the year on the outskirts of Geseke, said a police spokeswoman. Rescue workers were only able to determine that the young man had died. The force of the explosion suggested that it was probably an unauthorised firework. The relatives received counselling.

A 20-year-old man also died in an explosion in Hamburg, in his case it was a homemade firecracker. A New Year's Eve firecracker also killed a 21-year-old in the north of Brandenburg. The young man died in an accident in the district of Oberhavel, said a spokesperson for the situation centre. The criminal investigation department is investigating the incident.“

Mine hasn’t done that (on iPad). Just logged in using facial recognition as usual.

I use an on-line forum to help Eastern Europeans learn English.

Though it's definitely not my target audience, I a number of Russians reached out to me. (In my online profile, I always say I'm married, happy, with friends, and not looking for romance, which seems to deter cons).

Initially I ignored the Russians but decided to extend the olive branch as a symbol of peace and goodwill.

My experience with Russians has been completely different than other learners.

The old complain non-stop and reminisce about the good-old Soviet days. Surprisingly they moan about Putin on unencrypted communications, even after I warn them its likely multiple countries agencies are probably listening.

Russians born after 1991 are entitled and impatient, and I get responses like "I thought you were here to help me learn English."

And/or just paranoid. I've never been accused of being a robot, but it happened twice with Russians.

One insisted I write "I am not a robot" which I jokingly asked him what would that prove? It seemed to drive him up the wall to the point where I blocked him.

Another paranoid Russian began to stalk me. I told him I was going on vacation, and would be out of contact. He noticed I had been on-line and very creepily said "I thought you were going to be out of contact. I'm worried about your health" and blocked him too.

Again I've thoroughly enjoyed talking to Eastern European. A good number of them are Ukrainians living in English language countries and struggling with English.

But the Russians! Sheesh!

Mine reset itself to freshly-installed, not-registered-on-this-device state.  It seems to have corresponded to an app update a week or so back.

Which makes it even easier for attackers, just wait for an app update to come along and remove the biometric and password auth and then grab accounts via the low-security setup/reset process.

When web UI developers die they go to what they think is a waiting room before the gates of heaven.  However no matter what they do to get in, anything they do just pops up a message saying "Oops, something went wrong".  No other information, just "Oops, something went wrong" over and over again.

Then they wonder why there are flames and screaming around them...

Someone taking the opportunity to take the shopping out of our (thought to be) locked car, which apparently wasn't. Ruined a nice day out quite nicely.

Hopefully, they at least needed them more than we did.

Behodar:

"Order now and get it by Christmas!". Ordered six days ago, not shipped yet, probably won't be here in time for Christmas.

And it finally arrived on the 6th of January.

Edit: And then 2.5 hours later I get a cheery "out for delivery" email from the vendor with no hint about the lateness.

Sender: "Hey, Geekzone. I can't create an account"

My reply: "Ok, I've checked. Are you using ... or doing ...?"

My reply bounces. Because whoever complained can't even enter their correct email address for a response.

I am retired now, so have setup an automatic fortnightly repayment from my KiwiSaver account to my bank account to supplement the pension. They advise the bank on Wednesdays and payment enters account on the Friday.

Not so automatic because the date fell on Jan 1st, and it didn't go through. Rang them and they advised that it should go through in the next day or so but can't tell me exactly.

Without being too rude I told them that this is totally unacceptable and needs fixing.

Just as well it doesn't cause me any problems, but I guess it could for some people.
