I saw Transformers Age of Extinction on 3D Bluray in the weekend...I'd seen the movie a couple of times, but never in 3D.

All I can say is...WOW. and Meh.

The movie is too long and the action sequences really don't ever end, so it gets draining.

It needs to be a little less fast-paced and a little more selective with the fight scenes etc, but overall it was amazing to see in 3D on the telly (I have never seen 3D on a TV before).

visuals: 10/10
overall: 6/10

slightly off topic, but I don't enjoy 'going to a cinema' to watch a movie

I hate the lack of control of my environment - people speaking during the film, eating noisily & getting up in front of you

Also, you cannot pause the film to go for a break ha !

I much much prefer to watch in the comfort of my lounge, drinking a beer or whatever else I want and no noisy people to deal with

I go to a cinema maybe 2 times a year, and that is being dragged there by family etc

am I alone in this ? I seem to be among the people I work with who love going out to a movie, it seems

Yep it's getting expensive. Won't be going to the movies very often at this rate. The problem here in NZ is that there is a long delay after the movie exits the theaters and when it's available for streaming via Itunes or Google play. Even longer for US Netflix.. You can find them at the DVD rentals (if you can find one) a few months after they end their theater run..

No wonder people pirate them these days..

We went to an 8.40 session of Mad Max at the Embassy in Wellington on Saturday. Paid $12 each for tickets via Entertainment book, plus a $3 upgrade for 3D. Thought that was more than reasonable for the Embassy. I don't think I even blinked for two hours, much less notice the others in the theatre. (Before it started I noticed some people getting food delivered to their seats. Don't get that at home!!)

So glad I'm a Dunners boy right now. Reading cinemas steals Hoyts lease off them, offers $10 2D and $12.50 3D movies, spruces the place up and offers a better rewards/loyalty program. Not sure what we did to deserve it but I'm definitely not complaining.

Rule of thumb used to be 60-90 days after theatre release the dvd/bluray would come out. This was set obviously by the company releasing the movies. The bigger titles would obviously be 90+ days as they enjoy a longer box office season the lesser movies come out faster.

The problem we get here is (although it's a lot better than say 5 years ago) we often get a lot of movies that have been released overseas for that 60-90 days already when they hit our theatres which makes it just as attractive to import the disk or pirate the movie.

From what was said above it's good to hear Readings keeping pricing down as when you have a family it can cost close to $80-$100 to go see a film together making it unrealistic to go at all. This is a stark contrast compared to when I was younger we'd go to Wellington every weekend as a group (2 - 5 people) and see 1 - 3 movies and had a few times where we'd seen pretty much every film on offer (we'd go see arthouse movies too). Now i think I'd see maybe 1-3 movies at a theatre a year.

We did watch Pitch Perfect 2 the other night not really my kind of movie but I enjoyed right until the end where the ending ruined the entire experience. Good movie but you are more than likely going to leave feeling dissapointed with the ending.

Basically three jokes (the presenter is a dork, pooping pants, and things stuffed up Seth Rogan's backside) which they used over, and over, and over and over.......

An hour and a half of my life I won't get back again. Avoid!

Last year I commented in this thread that I had seen a locally made movie. Well now that movie is playing all over the country. The catch is they need people to reserve their tickets before the movie is actually played at a certain venue. Dunedin sold out and I believe Auckland did too but Christchurch is lagging behind. Unfinished Business 4/10 It tried so hard to be funny but it just wasn't, I like Vince Vaughn but this is one of his movies to avoid. It needed more Nick Frost and less Vince Vaughn and Dave Franco's character was just painful to watch.

Maggie Only watched it due to having Arnie in it, not sure why my brain processed that as a draw card, anyway, its not a good zombie move or a good tear jerk, its nothing! 3/10
