There are also some things that should never, ever be dubbed.  For example if you think Shatner is annoying in the original English...

There's also an unwritten rule that when dubbing westerns the greasiest, most unshaven bandits have to speak in the national equivalent of Received Pronunciation: "I say my good man, there is no need for you to peruse our odoriferous insignia".

If using subtitles we tend to keep the original language. Usually the sound is also better than the dubbed version.

Thanks - that’s a great idea - have done that in the past but TBH forgot about it.

Had another look at the settings and Norwegian soundtrack with English subtitles is an option - so now we’re back on track. 👍

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

Not an annoyance but a comment. My partner is from Scandinavia so we are often watching Nordic Noir stuff etc. I'm used to subtitles and have started putting the odd English speaking film on with them because of they way do audio now.

But the funny thing with some of Scandi ones, is despite having subtitles and not speaking the language, I find myself turning the sound up occasionally if an actor's dialogue is too low! It must be more immersive or something.

How many things are annoying me right now :)

Including irrational annoyances like, I am not that excited about the new 25U I ordered, and I knew it's release and delivery dates, but it annoys me I can't have it this weekend when I have time to set it up and properly enjoy it.

Getting a message from my wife during my round of golf this morning that a water pipe had burst under the house. What made it annoying was that it was the first monthly medal of the year and I'd just birdied the 6th to go 1-under. Rush home with a stop at Bunnings and spend the next 2 hours crawling under the house and come out covered in mud. All fixed now but not how I wanted to spend my Saturday morning.

To clarify. I'm annoyed at the burst water pipe, not my wife!

Well I applaud your ability to stop and Bunnings and know what to actually buy.

My own annoyance on the golf course yesterday was a shotgun start for Opening Day. Held up for a couple of hours and being called through with two holes to go.

And of course got called through on a hole where I'd absolutely massacred my two iron off the tee downhill, then hit my lob wedge halfway up the ball in front of said group some thirty metres over the back of the green.

I'm not sure the obsession of not calling through. Yes it's a shotgun start, but we were a fourball in carts (most of the field carted, we started at the furtherest point from the clubhouse) as there were two empty holes in front. Caught fourball walking after seven holes and sat behind them until our sixteenth. They'd lost two holes and just don't care.

Our time in carts was twenty minutes slower than our normal walking time.

That would piss me off.

Smiling today but I’ll keep the post here for continuity. After yesterday’s aborted round of golf I decided to put my name down on the timesheet this morning. A slow start with a few lazy bogies on the front nine but I made a couple of birdies on the back to finish with a 74. It wasn’t the monthly medal of the day before but pretty happy to shoot a good score.

For people who don't speak golf or know one end of a golf bat from the other, could we have some subtitles with these?

A bogie is 1 over par on a hole (5 on a par 4). Birdie is 1 under par on a hole (3 on a par 4). My final score of 74 was 2 over par for the round. Far from turning pro but still pretty decent.

Today's annoyance: Apple's automated backup system (Time Machine).

It used to work perfectly well. But a couple of versions ago they decided to "improve" it. Now, once I click on "Browse Time Machine Backups" (whether or not I actually restore anything) it'll refuse to perform any new backups until I reboot the computer. Of course, it doesn't tell me anything more than "Backup Failed" with zero further detail.

Kids being coached to cheat.

Aside from the moral aspect it’s so self defeating. Rather than coaching them how to play properly they learn how to take short cuts and when they can’t cheat because of better umpires they aren’t able to compete.

Waking up on Monday morning and realising that I really should have been a Lotto winner this past weekend, because I have zero motivation for this whole "work" thing...

That's very good. A couple more putts fall in and you are even!

The bad news is, as you said, you probably need to be 6 under to be pro grade.

NZ Post sending a parcel to Auckland, when the address, the courier sticker and the printed invoice clearly shows Invercargill.
