Senecio:

A bogie is 1 over par on a hole (5 on a par 4). Birdie is 1 under par on a hole (3 on a par 4). My final score of 74 was 2 over par for the round. Far from turning pro but still pretty decent.

That's very good. A couple more putts fall in and you are even!

The bad news is, as you said, you probably need to be 6 under to be pro grade.

Looks like Fox was about +3.5 when he turned pro, so no need to that far under!

The other issue is scores are self reported now, so there are considerably more plus handicaps than there used to be.

Ego reverse-farmed handicaps? I love coming up against those in a comp!

Parents wrongly stung with parking fines during drop-offs due to inaccuracy of licence plate cameras:

"We live 400 metres from the kindy"

Maybe if all the soccer moms left their Remuera tractors in the garage and got the kids to walk the two or three blocks they wouldn't have this problem.

See also my earlier post about someone complaining that the bus stop directly outside the school gates makes things awkward when they drive over to pick him up every day, possibly dodging the bus that's going over the same route they are.

Waking up on Monday morning and realising that I really should have been a Lotto winner this past weekend, because I have zero motivation for this whole "work" thing...

Since I no longer have to work, I'm in a good mood on Mondays (I used to be, but even more so now).😉

Today a supposed Telekom employee (they are the network operator here) came to the door and said that faster fibre optics were being implemented in the area and that he needed to see my router. Aha, so an expert? I told him that wouldn't be necessary, because I could tell him everything in detail if he could explain why a particular answer was necessary. That made him a little unsure at first.

At first he wanted my e-mail. No, what for? Then he wanted my participant ID. No, what for? Then he wanted to know whether I had VDSL or fibre optics. Fibre optic. Then I asked him what new speeds were planned? He didn't know. I see. And when will the expansion take place? Sometime in 2025, I see.

And why would he tell me all this nonsense today if he didn't want to sell me a new contract at the front door? I wished him a good day and my dog Skipper was already on hand to express his displeasure acoustically and speed up the farewell. 😁

I would have pursued his reasons for asking for your details

This was no longer necessary, as I am familiar with these business practices of some internet brokers. They are not illegal because you have a 14-day right of cancellation AND you should never accept the subsequent telephone call as a contract confirmation in any form. If you ignore it, any contract is cancelled without further action, whether legal or illegal. But many people don't realise this and so they try.

I also make it clear to my customers that there is absolutely no reason for anyone to ‘have to look at the router’ (this is the door opener) unless they have technical problems and have initiated the visit of a technician with a confirmed appointment themselves. Normally my customers consult me before they take any action.

My service also includes recommending the most favourable contract for them every 2 years (no, I don't have any revenue share from the ISPs, this is for my customers), as they then save about 40% of the total internet costs in 24 months as a new customer when they switch. But when switching, I have to pay attention to certain protocols and peculiarities of their routers, as the connection setup and the VLANs can be different. The most complex thing I have ever done was to programme the traffic rules for IPTV in suitable routers in order to replace an otherwise necessary complete additional device for IPTV. 🤣

I created a document with an image spanning two A5 pages, to be printed on a single A4 page. Did a print preview and all is well. Actually print the thing, and it's added a ~1 cm gap right down the middle of the image. What is the point of a print preview that doesn't preview what's going to be printed?!

That's one thing that's always puzzled me about printing, how hard is it to render something to a print device context and have it appear the same as when rendering the exact same thing to a graphics device context?  Firefox is particularly bad at this, it seems to be completely unable to produce printed output that's even close to the screen version, anything from elements cut off, elements moved around, through to nothing produced but the top and bottom margin info with a blank page in between.  I always use Edge as the Firefox print engine because that way you usually get the same thing on paper as you get on screen.

I actually exported to PDF first and was planning to print that, but it did show the gap in the preview there. I therefore went back and printed it from the original app, since the preview didn't show the gap.

Both pieces of software are from the same vendor (Apple), and the printer driver is also supplied by them.

I ended up creating an A4 version and managed to print half of it, then the printer ran out of ink. It's not my day!

I just got confirmation - it was a con artist. Unfortunately some people in the street were too gullible, but at least they now know from me that they shouldn't take the confirmation call within 14 days to get out of it. Skipper seems to be able to detect not only game, but also the sweat of fear from dishonest people. 🤣
