This annoyance is partly at myself for not reading the instructions (on the bin lid).
We are at the beach in the Coromandel on holiday. This weekend, including today, Feb 7 is viewed by the TCDC as the end of the summer holidays and as such the rubbish collection was for everything. Rubbish, glass recycling, general recycling (plastics, paper, etc) and food scraps, so 4 separate containers dutifully placed on the roadside last night as our cul-de-sac is one of the first on the truck's route.
However, after the trucks had been, I went to bring the bins in. All empty except the food scraps. Then when I read the bin lid, it said "No bin liners of any kind". In Auckland, we are able to use "compostable liners" with our food scraps, so that's what we had done here. It prevents the scraps bin from getting smelly, particularly in the hot summer sun. But alas, not something the TCDC can cope with.
I wish this sort of thing was standardised. I thought it was supposed to be nationwide, hence why we can actually recycle less than we used to in Auckland.
We'll just have to take the scraps home with us and dispose of it there. I've put the bags in the freezer to stop them smelling. Grrrr.
