If I'm the one paying the bills then I'm going to be the one making the demands. If a business can't cope with that, it has no business being in business.

Rikkitic:

Again, I get why sites do this but I refuse to drop my credit card down a well I can't see the bottom of. I also never allow the numbers to be saved.

Another purported reason is child safety, since credit cards often have a mininum age requirement. Somehow it doesn't quite wash, even with the recent Pornhub blocking controversy Stateside.

"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

Unfortunately, the businesses don't care about a small portion of people with your altitude. There are plenty more fish in the sea that don't have the same issues as you, and it doesn't affect them being in business, so while your stance is applauded, it really doesn't change anything except make you feel better about yourself, which is fine.

Not entirely sure about that. You may well be right but a lot of businesses (here, at least) seem to be struggling and it may just be possible that their attitude has something to do with that.

Senecio: When you search on line and find 3 independent websites all confirming that you need a mini blade fuse for your make and model of car. Then after you've purchase mini blade you get home to find out it takes micro 2 blade fuses. Why can't manufacturer's just agree on one size of fuse?

Where did you buy the fuses from?  If they're Chinese-made you can just drop in a steel strip, it'll have the same effect.  There's a ton of YT videos about this, e.g. Louis Rossman.

Yep pretty sure. As a lot of businesses here that are struggling, here at least, are not ones requiring your credit card for a signup for a free trial. They are just regular businesses.

Thats where the line of this comversation started

And on the side of the road there is no way you can remove one of those micro fuses.

Your expectations are not wrong ... but you have to adapt to the changes. My customers always find this difficult at first and realise that you can no longer conclude a horse deal with a word and a handshake.

I must and always want to proceed with caution, as it is all too easy for people to feel overwhelmed and develop an aversion to computers and no longer want to switch them on at all - which is also not helpful in an increasingly digital world. Not every older person has children or grandchildren who can help them cope with the demands.

You’re confusing a hostage negotiation with a transfer of value.

Both parties in a transaction need to get value, not just the customer. If you don’t bring value to a business you are worthless as a customer so not worth dealing with.

Not confusing anything. Americans know the customer is king. The value is having a customer at all. Businesses should be grateful.

Remind me where are most of the businesses that want a credit card for a free trial are based?

Selling something on TM and entering the dimensions, height, weight, blood type, voting history, and eye colour, whereupon it gives you a list of prices for different locations and couriers.  Then on the sale completing you have to re-enter all of the same information over again in order to get the results that are already sitting there right in front of you on the web site.
