Moonshine Rd (Upper Hutt side, not the hill road) is terrible for this.  Traffic on SH2 has just passed the 100kmh sign and is entering a corner when, invariably, someone will gently exit Moonshine Rd and accelerate glacially to around 50kmh to account for the 75kmh rated corner after the bridge.

That forces someone on SH2 to brake hard mid corner from generally between 80 and 100kmh.

There is zero merge lane as it's essentially a give way intersection with no ability to speed up before inserting yourself into the traffic flow.

Clifton Rd in Whakatane is also a "fun" one.

George St and Clifton Rd are both flat, but Hillcrest Rd (as you can probably tell by the name) goes uphill. People will often get up to 50 km/h on Clifton Rd so that they have some "oomph" to get up the hill... and then someone turning right out of George St will decide to trundle out and force them to slow down again.

My neighbors have an above-ground pool. Most of the year it's a large empty depression with a tarp and a few stones.

They fill it once a year, and use it at most 3 times a year.

I see them constantly skimming the water with a tiny net. They don't use any chemicals.

I don't see any leaves. Is it because of mosquito larvae?

I'd imagine without any chlorine or similar, they'd have mosquito larvae in there within a week, and frogs/flatworms and all sorts of other stuff within a couple of months.

An above-ground pool that’s a large empty depression with a tarp?

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

So even with a smallish pool of 30,000L that averages to 10,000L water per use.

It's one of those assemble-it kits. The walls are stored flat in the winter. I think they dug a small depression to make it level ???

Opening Feedly and the option "Show only unread" was unchecked for all 100+ feeds I have.

Some breaking changes in their application. Annoying.

Coming off the motorway (where the permanent speed limit is 80km/h) at Cook Street to enter the CBD and immediately having to slow to 30km/h upon turning a fairly sharp corner.

CBD has many 30 or 40 km/h roads, but to not have an adequate slow-down area and effectively having to slam your brakes on immediately after exiting the motorway is ludicrous.
The accidents this must cause (nose-to-tail accidents must happen here regularly) surely would outweigh the benefits of an immediate slow-down?

The area I am talking about (circled in red), with 30km/h limit at approx the purple mark (possibly/probably slightly earlier than marked):

Why are you doing sharp corners at 80km/h?

🤪

Sharp corner for the speed, I suppose I should have said. Map says it all - corner isn't exactly a hairpin...
