American Sniper 6/10 on Sky HD. Meh.
Looked at my watch part way through which is always bad sign.

Made the usual mistake of reading the book first so the whole counter sniper story is fiction. The stressed relationship with wife not handled as well.

Snowpiercer 6/10. Steampunk fantasy breakout movie. Awesome atmospherics and holds attention all the way through. No real story just reveal's.

Tomorrowland. 6/10. It could have been a simple enjoyable kids movie but way way too long. Visible fatigue in audience lol.

Tomorrowland.

Was an enjoyable modern 'Jules Verne' kind of thing until it went all "global warming is bad' at the end. I hate films that preach.

Also - as is currently the vogue - it was 30 minutes too long. Oddly, Hugh Lawrie was probably the worst part in the film.

Jurassic World (3D, Queensgate)

Pretty Good, actually; I enjoyed it, and I didn't feel disappointed at the end - often the "Summer Blockbuster" type movie doesn't really match the hyper or expectation. 8/10

3D - nicely done; didn't feel over the top at all; not sure if this was 3D filmed or a conversion (I could look it up I guess, but "meh"). I felt a couple of the shots looked a little too "miniature model" like, but overall pretty good.

(I got the impression that my left eye was a little blurry on occasions, but that could well be age catching up with my prescription!)

(And sadly, the Queengate #1 screen is showing it's age a little now - the replacement cost is fairly substantial from what I understand, so probably not something they do often)

Kingsman. Good action but wouldn't rate as high as IMDB. Give it a 6.5/10.

Very classy until the last few minutes when the Princess offers some different type of sex activity, out of the blue. No big deal, just strange at that point.

Also just came from Jurassic World, but at The Embassy. Not sure if it's because of the renovations but it was FREEZING in the theatre.

Aside from that, the film was AWESOME. It's everything you want from a Jurassic Park film. Loads of dinosaurs = loads of fun. Lots of product placement, but it was actually handled really well by calling out how big corps want to sponsor different types of exhibits. Clever!

It includes the usual fluff you don't need but has to be there to appeal to a wider audience that doesn't just want to see 2 hours of dinowars. Definitely the best one since the original Jurassic Park - and lots of throwbacks to it too.

Recommended!

Freezing theatres 4/10. I would rate this production higher if it was an energy saving strategy with customer benefit. Excellent energy saving result. The reality is just cost saving with no customer benefit and no other thought in it hence the low rating given.

Kingsman. Loved every second, wild ride from start to finish. 9/10. I hope they make another one.

100 Bloody Acres - Aussie black humor at it's best. Laugh out loud crazy, not for the squeamish. 7/10

"Under the Skin" starring Scarlett Johansson. Very good, disturbing, science fiction film from the director of Sexy Beast (another good film). 4/5.

Jurassic World, it was awesome, I hated the kids that brings the score down a couple of points. But you got to love Chris Pratt, 8/10.

The Wicker Man (1973) as a tribute to Christopher Lee's recent passing. Still a great film with a very creepy atmosphere.

San Andreas Quake I gave it a 4 / 10 Another fine Asylum production mockbuster. A bit of escapism for about 90 minutes. Note: Sharknado 3 coming July 22.15

Except for the last 10 minutes, which was formulaic, hokey, and utterly predictable. And the bit at the end where they said "We will rebuild" while the giant US flag unfurls was ridiculous - quite a few people in the theatre commented audibly at that point.

San Andreas Quake is a different film to San Andreas. Cashing in on the name i suspect.

Run All Night

Normally a big Neeson fan, just didn't click on this one for me. It did however present as a realistic action/gangster flick which was a nice change, kept within the bounds of normal human ability, and fallibility. Story was sadly predictable. Neeson was frequently out-shone by Joel Kinnaman (ex. Robocop) in the acting stakes.
