The sheer number of applications my son has sent out for entry level positions in or adjacent to the industry he has just graduated into.

Poor kid is willing to do anything and doesn't even get replies. It's pretty dire out there.

He was saying that if he had the money to go to Australia and set himself up, he could probably get a job in his preferred field within a couple of weeks. I can see why people jump the pond, never to return.

Which industry ?

Someone here might know someone who knows someone , etc.

It's ain't easy out there, I understand . .

Every time I find something I convince myself is a bargain on Trade Me, its pick up only about 400km away.

Or otherwise the cost of shipping is many times more than the item itself.

"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

Film and Television production/social media production etc.

he’s had a couple of work experience days here and there with ad agencies that film ads, but they aren’t hiring so he’s just been a production assistant for free so he can get something on his CV.

he’s done some freelance editing as well but while his passion is directing and scriptwriting, he is quite literally prepared to give anything a try at this point.

New neighbour's dog.

It barks all the time. And it's something large - Rottweiler or similar.

I've printed out the Auckland Council information sheets about nuisance barking dogs along with a polite note and put it in their letterbox. There's no way I am going through their gate onto the property and due to the high hedge and distance to their house and them being Chinese it's not possible to talk to them.

Other neighbours are also annoyed by the daily aggressive woofing so no doubt this will end up as a complaint to council and I don't have much optimism that council will be effective.

Anyone been through this process in Auckland?

Have you seen it or just heard it? Intruder deterrent alarms that mimic barking dogs seem popular on Temu.

Wife's uncle had a unit that he sat on a stool behind the front door that started barking like a dog when it detected someone at the door.

Oh it's a real dog there's no doubt about that. And when the neighbour is at home you can hear him yelling at it.

That won't work, the dog probably hears that as barking is normal here.

This used to be a neighbour's dog. Almost silent he'd just appear at the fence and look over it at you. The surprise was more effective than barking.

State Insurance 0800 robo-voice. Clearly text-to-speech, and not a good one! Can't even say "insurance" correctly 😁

It’s 2025 and you can’t watch official highlights of ICC tournaments on YouTube. It’s farcical.

Apple's killed off the iPhone SE, so there's no longer a sub-$1000 iPhone available new.

Sitting here with the window open, listening to the birds call and the rustle of wind through the leaves, I am reminded again, and again, and again, how much I hate the sound of bloody chainsaws.

  1. SEO slop with sentences like "You're interested in sending emails to a long list of recipients in Outlook? You came to the right place to learn how to send emails to a long list of recipients in Outlook. Now that we know that you are looking for how to send emails to a long list of recipients in Outlook, let's have a look on how to send emails to a long list of recipients in Outlook." and finish with "And this is how you send emails to a long list of recipients in Outlook"
