Just thinking there could be a market for sunglasses with circular rotatable lenses. Then when you’re driving with a HUD you could temporarily rotate the lenses 90° to avoid the polarising that affects the HUD visibility. Then rotate ‘em back when you’re out of the car.

The idea of polarising sunglasses would be defeated though - reflected glare is polarised and so the polarisation in sunnies filters this glare out which is quite a relief when driving, boating or skiing.

I wonder if car manufacturers usually do set their display polarisation to suit sunglasses and the HUD displays are more for night driving when sunglasses are not a factor?

That’s true but at least they would still work as sunglasses - albeit non-polarising for the original orientation - and you’d be able to see the HUD. Otherwise your choice is between sunglasses and no HUD - or no sunglasses with visible HUD.

Or get non-polarising glasses for driving - which is what I will do.

That Head Up Displays in cars do not work with polarising sunglasses.

Interestingly, mine does work with the polarised sunglasses I'm wearing; yes, there is a bit of discolouration around the edges [stress pattern visibility]; but I can read it fine...

So does mine, Ford Escape. Every other brand that test drove didn't work or didn't work well with polarised sunglasses. It was important for me to test as I only ever wear polarised sunglasses when I'm driving or on the water. I find that polarised lenses help to reduce fatigue significantly when driving.

Background: I was made redundant from my job in November.  As an employee, we had a subscription to the company product/services which obviously ended with my redundancy.

Today I get a call from retentions noting that I had cancelled my subscription and asking would I want to start it up again now with a special discount?

Google Maps: If you want directions from one location to another with one or more stops off the main route, it won’t show you the total distance of the trip.

Did not know that - not what I expected and bloody annoying.

Apple Maps does, if that helps.

Many thanks - it does help - didn't realise that. Will give it a whirl.

Local council is going to provide food collection bins that nearly nobody wants but everyone will be paying for.

1.Think up a service that nobody will use that you can bill everyone for

2. ...

3. Profit.

That seems a bit odd, I use this feature all the time to see if I should go to a certain town before another for work. It tells me the total KMS and time?

NB this is on my phone, and subsequently Android Auto in the car.

Google maps on iPhone: as soon as I convert to multi stop I only see total time and time/distance to next stop but not total distance!

I was a sceptic of these but now am a convert. Even though we buried all our food waste in the garden for many years before these came in, it has been handy to have somewhere to dispose of scraps when too busy or when everywhere in the garden is planted.
