Mortdecai.

Hilariously offbeat and totally not a Johnny Depp action vehicle in the normal sense.

Some great cameos (especially the Italian Mechanic, played by Paul Whitehouse).

Overall, I would have to say this was one of the more enjoyable movies I have watched in a while.

The gag reflex has had my wife and I laughing since Saturday!

Jurassic World. Pretty standard story, reasonable acting, good special effects, lots of action, 7.5/10.

Wish I'd seen it on Imax instead of Vmax.

Sin city 2 on blu ray. 8.5/10

Like the previous one, the stylish cinematography is something you love or hate.
I love it.
Black and white with the odd splash of colour. Very much like the graphic novel (comics) that inspire the movie.
Bit like pulp fiction in having three or four short stories running within one film. Many recognisable actors.
"Stylish" violence. Voice overs like 1950's detective stories
(Eva Green in the buff too if such a thing appeals)

"Kenny" (2006) on DVD. 7.3 rating on IMDb and Australian comedy at its best.

OK. Had some great bits - sadly the soppy blubbing kid being eaten was not one of them. He made it through. Maybe next time.

A few little hat tips to the original were nice to see. The excessive product placement (looking at you, Mercedes..about every 2 minutes) was a bit much. Story not very original. 7/10 just for the fun of it.

Just saw it tonight in 3d, thought it was quite good, well better than the 3rd one...
the mercedes trucks look great!

Saw Kingsmen on iTunes yesterday.

Thoroughly enjoyable.

As someone earlier said, it was surprisingly violent, but it did have some excellent lighter moments...especially towards the end, when he is at the door of the Scandinavian Princess' cell...

Overall, a good yarn, told well, with a couple of surprising twists.

Was home sick, and had been meaning to watch this for a while. I have to say, though, that if I hadn't bothered I wouldn't really have missed anything. There wasn't really anything wrong with the premise (man falls in love with his AI operating system). In fact, it was precisely that which caught my attention - it reminded me of a story from New Outer Limits called Bits of Love about a guy who has survived some form of apocalyptic event in his bunker, populated with AI versions of his friends and family, and falls in love with the virtual assistant. However, where that story was typical Outer Limits fare, and had a slightly sinister overtone, this film just languished in Joaquin Phoenix's mopeyness.

There was a genuine moment near the start of the film where he meets the OS for the first time, and I sincerely felt the piqued interest of meeting a new, virtual person. However, after that part it just drags on far longer than it had any right to. Concepts of fidelity, "realness", love and loneliness are all sketched out, but at 2 hours long the film feels like a trudge through the main character's emotions. The drudgery is illustrated by the fact I got up several times and didn't bother to pause the film. I came back several minutes later and hadn't missed anything. At about the 1 hour mark it seemed like the film was reaching its denouement, then I looked up and saw there was another hour to go. I actually said out loud (on my own) "jeez!" To be honest, I don't think the second hour added much to the resolution of the film.

It's a shame, because I had heard reasonably good things about this film. If it had just been even 30 minutes shorter it might have been much better.

The Gunman. The title is misleading but the movie is actually interesting and the performances are well done. Give it a 6/10. Lots of brand new movies on Amazon Instant Video, it seems they aren't out at cinemas really.

5 Flights Up (Morgan Freeman / Diane Keaton); 7/10.

Drama about an older couple who decide that perhaps it's time to sell their apartment (in New York) after 40 years together.

A fairly quiet piece, but it's simply a joy to watch both Morgan Freeman & Diane Keaton; I was also impressed with how much the actress playing the "younger" Keaton looked and acted like her. The two main sub-plots (their ailing dog and the occurring "breaking news" drama) both helped carry the film nicely.

Without going too much into detail (and potential spoilers), if the way the TV News was being portrait is anywhere near accurate, then it certainly does make for fairly grim viewing, in my mind. "Grim" in that the media was being shown as completely OTT about the situation, and certainly involved in fanning the flames of racism and intolerance in the US. Sadly, this is probably fairly true, and NOT the parody I hope it was.

Oh, and remind me to NEVER go house-hunting in America....

Watched Insidious 3 it was good if you like the others then this is just as good. James Wan delivers again.

Minions.

Nowhere near as good as the Despicable Me movies, but it had its moments and good animation.
The cars look amazing.

A good dig at HRH and the english habit of drinking tea.

It's ok but too long and hangs together barely connected by characters. It's like a half terminator half teen novel thing. Direction not great.

Spy - 7.5/10

Expected it to be abysmal, but really enjoyed it. Wife dragged me along, largely due to Jason Statham I suspect, who plays a bit of a parody of himself. Very funny film, some of the more creative profanity I've heard in quite some time.

McCarthy's character is very likeable and there are heaps of sight gags.

It felt like a British film more than an American one. Very silly, but lots of fun.

6/10 is very generous in my opinion. I thought it was terrible. Plot made no sense at all, although it is explained quite well here.
