Handsomedan:

All this talk that doctors will go broke if we change the prescription rules so taht you only need to visit them once every year for a refill of a regular prescription.

What talk is this? You do only need to visit in person once a year. The rest of the year I use the Manage My Health app to request repeats. There is a charge for Dr's time which means 3 online repeat requests probably equals 1 actual visit.

Each of those three non-contact prescription renewal interactions requires a doctor or nurse practitioner to go through the process of raising another set of prescriptions, which is time - or so the argument goes - that is unnecessary and could be more usefully spent on a needed face to face consultation.
On the other hand, it also gives the medical practice the opportunity to charge ($22.00 in my case) a 'prescription fee'. I'm a cynical suspicious old git, so I can't help wonder if there are  commercial pressures for medical practices to support the three months prescriptions regime

I don't think my doctor has an app.

My last request was Friday. The Doctor did the box ticking to send a prescription to the chemist at 5.20pm on Sunday. I've kidded him about the hours he keeps but with over 3000 patients he can't avoid working from home. I can usually see him within 2 weeks for non urgent things.

The Government probably need people to say "I'm not dead yet!" as once dispensed medicines can't be recovered/reused.

My GP's practice moved from Manage My Health for many reasons. They are now using a locally-developed application, Centrik, which has a mobile app as well.

Is there any similar system for blood tests? I'm supposed to go every 6 months for a blood test, turns out I haven't been since late 2021. Getting a GP appointment in order to have the GP make another appointment at Labtests seems quite convoluted and a waste of their valuable time...

I had a recurring blood test request. I got a card from the lab and I just had to show up, which I did on the 1st of the month (as well as buying the anti-flea chews for the dogs1, run a full dishwashing cleaning cycle, etc).

  1. Dogs in the past. Dog now as of today.

I have recurring blood tests setup via manage my health / gp. But it got confusing as I would get reminders that got out of sync with the time interval set and when I turned up to the lab there wasn't a GP request in the lab system. Lucky it was same place as GP, so they just put blood test form under GP's door. Lab person says ah manage my health...

Did a big shop, milk, meat, salmon etc yesterday evening. This morning found that the fridge had been propped open all night. It got caught on something sticking out. Shut door and don’t want to think about it.

Depending on size of gap, the food might be okay but your power bill could be horrendous.

Mentioned before no doubt, but the simple things missing from browsers (unless of course they're there but I can't find them...). Bit of colour coding for bookmark entries eg make all Amazon stuff red. Being able to select a group of bookmarks and open them with the old CTRL+Click or SHIFT+Click.

You could try ringing your practice to talk with the nurse, and ask them to arrange the test for you.  At my GP's Practice, all the prescription renewals go via the nurse first anyway.

Fridge can be not so bad - freezer can be worse.
