I find that FB pages quite often don't work in firefox but will in chrome. Some businesses have a website with basic info but then direct you to FB for menu details. Which ends up getting quite fragmented with 100's of updates. All you want is a PDF of the menu. How hard is that to provide! So I'm now going to have to physically call in to my local pub to check out the menu for a planned dinner as it changes like the tides.

For someone with no IT staff on hand, and they are a restaurant operator and not a person who does desktop publishing, it is very hard.

Pretty much. It’s all choices and consequences. Everyone wants to have no negative consequences of their choices, which is unrealistic.

I've been sent an item (a tracker tag) from AE that was flat out different in spec (inferior) to what was advertised and unsuitable. I attempted the AE dispute process but was basically told to get lost.

There's no safety in AE purchases. You may get sent the the wrong thing and that's just tough luck. I've avoided it since then.

Was it ordering a "tile" tracker and getting some generic POS with some app noone has heard of?

Yep. It was advertised as Apple FindMy AirTag compatible but was not and required an third party app to work.

SPAM vs Fraud vs A simple mistake

Once again I'm getting emails for someone else. At first I thought this was a simple mistake, but taking a look it appears to be a money laundering attempt via Western Union.

First I didn't opt in - so I was going to report this as SPAM

This is overseas so I can't report it locally as Fraud.

Western Union will only let the account holder close the account, and as I'm not impacted by the fraud I can't report it.

And now it appears they've switched to using XE as I'm getting new account activation emails.

I don't know much about modern broadcast TV, and even less about pay TV, but I'm staying in a place with cable and watched a movie. It's so quiet that I had to turn the TV volume up to 100. Then the movie finished, and the ads started... and started blasting my eardrums. We're talking maybe 3x the volume of the movie (based on needing to turn the TV down to about 35).

Possibly its misconfigured and the movie was 5.1 and the centre was going nowhere?

Movies typically have decent dynamic range and if it was a pay service that did not keep that intact then its not worth paying for, and this is a problem when you have ads which are compressed to the limit mixed in with the same service.

Ah, that's a good point. I'm so used to watching things with a surround system that I forgot about the limitations of 2-channel stereo!

Does the cable box have a volume control that's turned down forcing you to turn the tv up?

The Octopus Energy App.

"Connect your devices and unlock savings! Find out if you device is compatible with Intelligent Octopus"

Proceed. Find our car manufacturer amongst a rather large list of options. A new list, with our model and battery. Next, a list of EVSE manufacturers. Find ours, and then a new page to select our particular model, which is listed - great! Proceed...

"We don't support your car or charger just yet."

What the actual firetruck? I've just gone through six different screens, picking out selections from your drop downs, only to be told you don't support the things you have listed!? Why are they even listed!!?

I couldn't find any vehicle or charger combo that they did support, just by randomly picking a vehicle and a charger.

Grrr

This is where things get complicated :)

Last night was the first time we'd used the cable box, and we found that the batteries in the remote were flat, so we had to use the buttons on the front panel instead. There are no volume buttons on the panel. The remote does have a volume control, but I assumed it would control the TV: the cable box, being connected via HDMI, should just be pushing the digital signal through without messing with it.

I suspect if the box does have its own control then it would have affected the ads to a much greater extent. The ads on cable are of similar volume to those on free-to-air.

What it outputs would depend on if its set up to pass the digital bitstream or decode to PCM. Decode is popular because that means that the volume control will work. Sending to a TV over CEC is hit and miss with it mostly being miss, so control on STB's is still a very popular thing to do. Even chromecasts will still attenuate the volume if you change it. Real pain.
