Always worth travel insurance. My Mum was going to Sydney this Friday for a week to visit my brother, and his wife and son. Didn't bother with travel insurance as she has various medical conditions and thought anything to do with them wouldn't be covered anyway as it was all pre-existing, and if there was some emergency she can get medical care there as an NZ citizen. Sunday afternoon she managed to fall over and break her leg and is spending a few days in hospital so it's now all canceled. An accident like this (not a pre-existing condition) would likely have been covered. It's only the (premium economy) flights she's lost as was staying with my brother and didn't have tours or any big things booked. Not life changing money like other non-insurance stories but still annoying to lose and avoidable.

Trying to upgrade a friends Spark Broadband plan. Cannot uncheck the new modem option (already has the Spark Modem 3), and that adds $5.53 onto the monthly bill! Both were checked when that page comes up. Why would anyone want 2 new modems, grrrrr. Nothing's simple. So that will mean a phone call, oh yay there goes 30 minutes

Is it wireless or fibre broadband? Unless he's already renting a wireless modem there seems to be a logic error.

Windows File Explorer:  Attempting to rename a file from "MY File" to "My File" (Fat finger typing held the shift key for too long) results in 'The source and destination filenames are the same".

I could swear I have changed the case of a display file name before and it just worked...

I read that as you won't be getting a modem - no 'dot' in either of the 'I'd like to buy a new modem' options. Just a (redundant) dot in the payment options that possibly should be greyed out or not there as the 'buy' option isn't selected.

It added that $5.53 to the total though. Sorted with a not too painful phone call 👍

Windows seems to be getting worse.

In the XP era you could insert an audio CD and it would show a bunch of "fake" WAV (or maybe WMA) files on the CD that you could play or copy. Now with the default AutoPlay settings it'll show an Explorer window with no files, and then automatically eject the disc again since there are no files on it.

I don't believe this was a feature of Windows, rather it was a third-party driver that likely got installed alongside some other software.

I might be confusing it with Mac OS. Windows of that era certainly didn't eject the disc again though!

I guess the New Zealand DIA no longer wants to hear about spam emails.

Their link to "Report email spam" has been dead for about a month.

redirects to https://www.reportspam.co.nz/

I always suspected that reporting email spam to them was political theatre, going into a large wastebasket.

When I was in NZ I reported a Real Estate Agent to them for spamming me and not stopping when asked. They contacted the REA and reported back to me that there would be no further issues. There are no further issues.

YMMV

It works for me. I think you either entered a typo, have a DNS problem or your machine has been hijacked.

It's also a bit concerning that their enforcement page seems to imply that no enforcement action has been undertaken in the last year and a half.

Having said that, I have a zero tolerance approach to spam on my main email account so always report it to DIA and to the sender's email provider. My approach seems to be effective as I only receive a handful of spam emails each year. I find that Mailchimp in particular is pretty effective at dealing with bad behaviour by their clients.
