So the latest version of Android Auto has this new AI "feature" that will summarise incoming messages for you and then read you the summary - https://9to5google.com/2024/03/02/android-auto-message-summaries-available/ I didn't knowingly turn this on and I really can't see anywhere to turn it off. I got my first one of these "summarised" messages today and needless to say it didn't make the slightest bit of sense. It was apparently from someone called Mōrena. Yeah right - I don't think Android Auto AI knows any Māori.

I simply fail to see the point of this "feature", as most messages would be fairly short anyway (my incoming one was 42 words) and as in my case, summarising them destroys all context... I wouldn't have thought there was huge clamouring from the user base for this as a feature... 🙄

Any field even vaguely related to technology currently has mandates from on high to shove "AI" into everything!

More Ai Bulldust.
You can go 2 ways, 1/ Outrageous claims that your product is Ai empowered.
2/ Have Ai write just Batdust crazy advertsing copy.
Actually 3 as you can do both.

So lenses made out of molded plastic with no moving parts can exhibit Ai intelligence ?
They can predict where you are going to look !
Wow can these give me next draws lotto numbers ?

Seems there is more to it

Varilux: The lens was developed with artificial intelligence, using 1 million data points from spectacle wearers, so it can predict everyone’s visual behaviour. To build your lenses, we create a digital avatar of you and analyse it in a 3D environment that reproduces real-life scenarios. This process establishes your individual vision profile, which enables us to optimise the lens for your visual behaviour, not just your prescription.

I somehow doubt there is a 3d scan of 'you' involved.

I mentioned to some friends that I think it's strange so many different corn chips in the supermarkets, and only tomato salsa for dips.

No queso! The world needs queso.

So I searched for queso at Countdown - nothing.

Searched for queso at New Wolrd and - found it:

Right, let's look at this. DAFARK is going on?

Dairy-free queso? It's in the name - QUESO is CHEESE. WTF the only queso available is not even queso? And "chilpotle"? What's that? They can't spell chipotle right?

Wikipedia has both spellings. For whatever reason it seems to be a known thing..

A comment here provides a source and states it is the correct phonetic translation from modern Nahuatl of the Aztecan language family as spoken by 1.7 million people in central Mexico:

There wasn't, but someone got a good performance review for adding it, and their manager got an end of year bonus.

I agree - its a rather pointless "feature", go to your Android Auto settings on your phone, scroll down to the bottom and there is an option called "Play AI message summaries"

It actually concerns me a bit that it's modifying person-to-person communication. Imagine if it didn't tell you it was doing that, and just did it!
