The Eden Park Trust have their hands out for more public money.

If they want to maintain control of their toy they should fund it themselves.

With the alternative being a billion largely funded by the tax payer it's the lesser of two evils. There is a smaller funding option for a lesser grandiose renovation .

Saw a fleeting image of some architect’s megabuck vision on TV news tonight - all swoopy columns and ugly. Give us a break.

Or they can give up control proportionate to the public investment so that future decisions, including sale of the land, can be made on the basis of the public good rather than what the Trust want.

The Eden Park Trust have a long history of selling pipe dreams to get public money for a "one off investment" and then coming back with their hand out.

They want to have their cake and eat it to. They should be told either fund the thing themselves or hand it over to be run by the government or council.

How bad Google search (and other website searches) have gotten.

Searching for example : Bluetooth heaset with good mic and sound quality returns results for devices near the top of the list (and in some cases, top of the list), that don't even HAVE Bluetooth.

Another example: Intel 258v Notebooks. In that list are mostly notebooks from the prior Intel generation and EVEN some AMD ones (with no mention of 258v at all).

I normally use DuckDuckGo these days, only using Google when I can't find what I'm after on DDG.

"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

From a non-Aucklander's perspective, the rational thing to do would be to dissolve the Eden Park Trust & its board, redevelop the site for medium-to-high density housing and use the money so generated to fund a new stadium with decent public transport connections, probably on the waterfront.
But that would require the government pass a Bill to abolish the Eden Park Trust and direct the use of the funding into a new stadium, and I can't see Auckland politicians getting together to do that.

From what I heard on the RNZ Morning Report today, both the "redevelop Eden Park" and the "build a new stadium" proposals would require "public money" to be viable, so my guess is that the Auckland Council will adopt the "do nothing" option

Would require more than just Auckland politicians. As much as I think this would be sensible land use change, it would require a government to expropriate land from its owner. I don't think the bar is reached for that sort of totalitarianism and a stadium is not critical public infrastructure that the Public Works Act is aimed at.

Eden Park Trust is as crooked and self-serving as it gets.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/nz-news/360621433/most-councillors-voting-aucklands-stadium-plan-have-accepted-gifts-eden-park

Information provided to Stuff under the Local Government Official Information and Meetings Act revealed all but five of councillors had accepted offers to be hosted by Eden Park Trust.
That hosting included free tickets to events like Pink, Coldplay, Travis Scott and Luke Combs, as well as All Blacks tests and Super Rugby games.
The only councillors who did not accept Eden Park freebies were Julie Fairey, Alf Filipaina, Mike Lee and Sharon Stewart.

I am getting more and more annoyed at the endless multiplicity of pointless marketing-driven cleaning and toilet product choices littering supermarket shelves. Gels, tabs, liquids, solids, Aardvark-scented, multicoloured endless crap variations that just cause confusion and decision-making paralysis. I finally had to ask the help of a store employee to find simple bleach, which was tucked away in a hidden corner at the far end of the aisle where all the competing rubbish was screaming for my attention. I find myself feeling nostalgic for the empty shelves of Soviet-era shops. Enough is surely enough.

Wait till you try to find a toothpaste that is not mint floavoured - there are 10s of ones that all have loads of big meaningless words on them and nothing about the most important thing, the flavour in it.

AIM used to do that but of course they pulled the non-mint one in NZ and you can only get it now in Oz.
