Makes sense to me. That was an important and tactically interesting battle.  Up there with a visit to Thermopylae or Bannockburn. 

I've been to Bannockburn and seen the two burns (streams) Proud Edward's men died between, and the one they drowned in droves in.  It's hard to imagine so much death in such a small, bucolic place.

Well there you go. I thought it would be more like this.

My daughter is trying to arrange the theory test required to get her learners licence in Blenheim.  To state the obvious, a lot of the people booking in for these tests are 16 and attend school.

You can only book in person, and in Blenheim you can only make bookings between the hours of 10:00am and 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.  And they don't let anyone join the queue after 3:30pm.

You couldn't write this stuff.

School holidays are good for that kind of thing.

My son just sat (and failed) his restricted test - he waited two months for an appointment and then when he failed he tried to rebook immediately. First available time - mid-July!!! 

There should be a better system.

There is a wait of over 12 months to get a firearms license at the moment - July doesn't seem too bad to be honest!

I say this as a hunter ... a firearms licence is less important.  Bu I can see how that would frustrate.

nah, It was a Saturday and Sunday.  Must have felt like two Mondays for Proud Edward though.  Nay sae vauntie, after that battle, I imagine.

True but you would think they would tailor the hour more to their main age group or allow online bookings (you can get a passport online after all).

Yeah, nah... Whether it's a WW1 shell as someone else suggested, or an artifact of a recent battle, it obviously didn't go off, so still full of explosives. Why didn't it go off? Maybe the trigger mechanism was jammed up by a bit of sand, which a bit of shaking might have freed up? Or that a reduction in air pressure might free up? Not to mention that old explosives get unstable, so they don't need much to set them off.

Not knowing much about this stuff myself, I'd be heading out the door as fast as possible.
