My current server combo is an old MacBook attached to a modded Asus RT-N16 router with USB/SMB support & a 1TB drive plugged into it & there's a Cisco ATA-186 VoIP->POTS convertor hanging off the side for SIP support.

A decent micro-server would be lovely as an alternative, I can't quite justify using an old DL-380G4 that I could scrounge at home, the WAF would be out the window :) - Running a single small unit that combines 2 or 3 of the other components would make management much happier, and as a by-product, would make my life less stressful.

My current HP server.. a venerable ML330 G3, which is way past its use by date. Not to mention its a bit nekkid at the moment :-)

The main reason moving to a new server would benefit me would be the ability to move to 64-bit and start virtualizing Server 2k8 R2. This would benefit my training regime, and also make me happy in the pants..

My current server lives (unloved) in the garage as it's too noisy to have inside, an upgrade would be helpful and maybe allow me to bring it in from the cold.

I work out of my garage, and my two development "servers" comprise of a Pentium 3 800MHz box (top one in photo) running apache, and the bottom box is a Athlon64 3500+ running MySQL. They're noisy and don't really go that fast.

It would be nice to have a real server, and I might actually be allowed to move back into the house if I have something small, quiet and not looking like it was designed after an old nokia phone...

We have a very noisy 8 year old Gigabyte rack Server that annoys "a noise" everyone in the office so it would be great to have something that is newer and quieter.

At preset, all of our files are scattered between our external HDD, our 7 year old desktop and my netbook.

I haven't missed not having a home server after having seven in recent years. Five of them were HP/Compaq so I'm getting the itch to have one again.

So there are many computers in my house so it would be very nice to have a central server to store all files between them. Having a dedicated server computer would also allow me to host many web services which I hope to soon.

Oh and here's my rig. Built and upgraded slowly over 6 years, replacing/adding possibly a single component each year.
CPU was Low end Pentium 4 -> now Core 2 Quad

My Server... Well i don't have a true server. but i do have one computer thayt sits upside down (pictured) for cooling reasons. its a cheap and nasty case with any spare drives and components i could find. Then i have an array of other computers and laptops that get turned on for various uses such as web services and asterisk. I really could make use of one box that could do it all.

My server is laughable however it does what's required of it.

It runs Fedora and hosts a Apache server (around 700,000 hits a month), mySQL and Postfix server all on a PIII 933Mhz with 512MB of ram lol

I think a new server would benefit me because anything would be better than what I have now lol. Should be able to decrease load times and host more on the one server. ie media and more websites
